On the Ascona Neo tonight☝:
GusGus - Mobile Home, from 2021, on black vinyl at 33rpm. Crazy good pressing, marvelous sound
!! I did stream this album before the vinyl got here, and to be honest, I must say this vinyl recording is light years ahead compared to the streaming.
Playing one arm at the time, I’m trying to figure out what tonearm/cartridge combo sounds the best here…
…
This album has lots of mid bass, and is kind of dampened of the sheer brilliance, to tell of the extremes… -though extremely good sounding!!
For this, the brutal force of the 4P/ Koetsu Blue Lace is not optimal to my ears, just too much bass, and the brilliance gets kind of hidden in the overwhelming deep and mid bass.
The little calmer TA-9000/Opus-1 combo, is a bit tooo soft for this album to be 100% on target for my taste.
I feel the TA-5000/Ortofon MC Diamond is right on spot here. It controls the electronic mid bass with such precision, mid bass is NOT overwhelming as with the other two combo’s, and yet, the deep tight bass is perfectly balanced. The brilliance in the upper end is super clear, without any sharpness. This is exactly how I like it☝
!!
All the combinations sounds really really good, but for this particular album, the MC D is the tonights winner!
Thank you Shane
@XV-1 for introducing this album to me, and thank you GusGus for making it!
