Like every year around this time, the Christmas tree has gone up, the family including a new son-in-law have decorated the tree........ and Christmas music is playing on the main system. (sigh) It's not Christmas. It's not even December. Bah hum bug.

THIS is why I have maintained, at least, 2 systems, for years now. It's not that I don't like the Christmas classics. Nevertheless, by the time dessert is finished, I will be running helter skelter for the second system, records in hand.
 
That's a great album to test the dynamics of your system. There are moments when Muddy Waters goes from a quiet pianissimo to a really loud fortissimo. I've heard many cartridges have tracking issues, and loudspeakers running out of steam. A single solitary human voice is capable of absolutely stunning dynamics, one reason so many opera recordings distort when the soprano or tenor reaches for that high note. I think a microphone that can handle the full range of a human voice might not yet have been invented!
