OK, here's my silly thread submission: What's your favourite takeup reel? To me, a takeup (and supply) reel completely changes the look of a deck. My absolute favourite is the original Scotch style, It just screams VINTAGE, as it seems to me that they were very popular in the 50s and 60s on the old Ampex decks. Lots of old movies that show pix of RTRs show those reels.

I recently bought one on eBay just to have a matched takeup reel for some of the full reels I have.

I'm afraid my favourite reel has nothing to do with sexy. This Maxell labelled one. I also have some Teac labelled ones. Especially on machines with a dark top plate (prosumer Studers:)) or large dark reel tables (Ampex) it is much easier to see the tape towards the end of the reel than on the more open reels.

GP9 reels. They are very robust and pack tape really well.

You both have great setups, very nice!

Red Anodized GP9 reels (2) and a Gold Anodized 3M 996 reel. That one is twice as heavy as the GP9 reel. The reel plates are twice as thick. Probably my favorite from a packing standpoint...no reel warps what so ever.
