Who’s up for a $2800 fuse?

Hi Barry2013,

So based on your experience, where in the UK there are all the components with fuses PLUS all the cables which ALSO have fuses in them...where do you start. At rough count, there are 18 places for fuses in our system if you count from the wall to the 2 power conditioners to the Source, Pre, Amp and Sub.

For my part and were I to be running your system, I would start with the 13Amp mains feeding your power conditioners , whilst replacing the power rail fuse ( usually part of or adjacent to the chassis IEC ) in your Source and Pre and evaluate to begin with.

The advice I was given and followed was power cables to the power conditioner, amp and tuner ( whichI listen to a lot) and internal fuses to the amp and tuner.
That has worked for me. Your main source is digital so I would be inclined to do the same as above to start with which will need a few extra fuses in your system, but should be a good start. The rest can come later if you are happy with the stage one results.
No question that the yellows are good, but the violets are worth the extra cost

Thank you. When you say power rail...you mean the interior of the Robert Koda K15EX preamp itself? Given that Robert has obsessed about every single component...eg, he has 'hundreds of cooling fans'...and ultimately ended up with the ultimate ones that I too had found as being top of the line....I suspect I will leave the internals of the RK electronics alone.

However, I will speak with the importer about the power cables and the power conditioner as you suggest...certainly seems a logical place to start.

Yes and I assume like you the Burmester has fuses
IME the violets are better than the yellows but the yellow internals in my MD109 are working very well so you could consider the yellows for the internal fuses. You can upgrade them to violets within six months and get a full refund of the costs of the yellows.
On the basis of my experience I am confident that the QSA fuses will improve significantly the sound quality of your system.Again IME they are a very cost effective upgrade, more so than cables and components.

My apologies for not being entirely clear in my reply.
I was advocating that to begin with you might install the 20mm fuse that may be part of the equipment chassis IEC inlet or seperate fuse holder situated on the rear chassis usually close by the IEC, sit back and evaluate over a few days before considering cracking the hood on your electronics and advancing to internal power rail fuses. It is worth considering that some manufactures may not honour any warranty remaining on their equipment should one perform ones own internal surgery, non invasive or otherwise

Thank you! That makes sense, and I will speak with the importer. I have never tried different fuses...the only indirect exception is that certain manufacturers recommend and use specific fuses like Synergistic Orange because they like the sound. So I still have no idea what they do, but I understand from the manufacturer that they have done all the listening and selected them.

My QSA fuses just get better.
I reported earlier on the arrival of the awaited violet fuse. Also that it coincided with the arrival of an Entreq Atlantis Infinity power which was then fitted to the Atlantis pc and connected to mains supply to the power block. It replaced the existing Challenger 3V pc.
The combination made a big improvement to the already substantial gains, Since then have listened extensively, but a couple of days ago I earthed the Atlantis to an Entreq 10 box with an Apollo Infinity earth cable.
Since then I have listened at length to the full suite of QSA yellow and violet fuses on my system.
Now obviously the new Atlantis cables have contributed to the resultant huge improvement in the sound quality of my system, but in combination with the QSA fuses there has been what I can only describe as a quantum jump.
It now sounds so pure and bereft of any noise or grain. There is a delicacy and fidelity to the sounds of musical instruments with violins and other strings exhibiting near live performance sound.
Earlier today I played the very recent yellow vinyl Rolling Stones Hot Rocks album. Jaggers vocals are now clearer than I have ever heard before and there is a new strength and tightness to the bass,The PRAT sounds are equally impressive.
Pardon me banging on, but these QSA fuses are just a no brainer IME.Can understand people being sceptical that fuses can make such a difference, but do yourself and your system a favour and give them a try.

From what I have read , a good number of folk have A-B’d the SR Orange against the QSA Yellow and universally preferred the latter.
I haven’t seen anyone commenting with regard to the SR Purple ... as far as I am aware they have only just commenced shipping.
