Your "World's Best Audio System" . . . 2012 Edition

Yes, I konw all details but I am not at liberty to reveal any information yet. What I can say is that the original idea of the La Assoluta is delayed and will have another name. La Assoluta is now not a complete system, but a speaker. It replaces the earlier scheduled T2. The plan is that it will find its way into one of my three systems along side a new planned tower shaped reference mono amplifier from Tidal which will come a little later than La Assoluta. The La Assoluta will be a sensation with groundbreaking new technology and material choices not used in in a similar application in any speaker ever designed before.

Thanks, Roysen...when you say the La Assoulata will be a groundbreaking sensation...are you referring to this near-term replacement of the earlier T2...or the the delayed complete speaker system?

I am talking about the La Assoluta (the speaker). The system will be called by another name and is a complete system, digital source, preamplifier, power amplifier, speakers, rack, cables.

Thanks...will this be out this summer? Very, very interested. I know someone who is selling his T1s in order to upgrade to something they are coming out with...it must be these Assoulatas.

Yes, it will be out this summer and its most likely the La Assoluta your friend is upgrading to. I am in line for this speaker too. Unfortunatly the price will also be borderline crazy.

What constitutes borderline crazy in this case? ;) We are nearly all borderline crazy for even being on this forum!

Well, to put it like this. The main speakers without the bass towers and without the outboard active crossover will have an MSRP in the ballpark of three times the Wilson XLF speakers. Still the La Assoluta will be quite a catch if you calculate the material and parts cost of this speaker.

Wow....is this for the speaker only or for the entire system

The Tidal Audio La Assoluta is only a speaker. The earlier project called La Assoluta from Tidal Audio which was an entire system will be given another name. The price I mentioned was for the La Assoluta speakers only and for only the main towers and not including the subtowers and the outboard active crossover. It can be configured like a Sunray with only the main tower or with an active crossover and with a subtower. I am comparing the European XLF price in Euro with the European La Assoluta price in Euro.

WoW! Well, definitely one to hear given the excellent reputation of the Tidal audio guys. Let us know when yours is ready!!!

There ya go, I think we have our first million dollar speaker!
Curious what kind of materials are used, to justify this much money...

Well most expensive doesnt tell sh$$$t , i just went from 20 mm diamond membrane highs with only a duelund vsf between the amp and the speakers membrane , to cheaper mundorf caps and a ringradiator soft dome , the former combo is +- 15 times more expensive and delivers less detail and naturnalness .
been there done that.

You tried the Mundorf caps with the diamond driver?

The Mundorf Silver/gold oil is a exceptional sounding cap - especially on the tweeters.

My custom built 4 tower speakers will use only one Mundorf silver/gold cap in the crossover - yes only on the two tweeters, the mid and bass drivers connects directly to the amp.

Fascinating Wizard

can you share some photos of your room and system with us

I have to correct myself , i have tried the diamond 20 mm (lightweight perfect piston cone )with mundorf silver oil , supreme and various other caps .
I have tried duelund with ceramic 25 and 30 mm cones , not with the diamond .
I will try duelund caps with the soft dome and ringradiator later this year .
i also use now paper composite mids at a 1/5 of the price of the thiel mids same story

Don't you think this was inevitable? The hobby just destroys itself . As for 'justifying' the cost...I thought the whole point was the cost (I've got the biggest toy).

I do use filtering for every driver , none is connected straight to the amp.
On loudspeakerhousings i think however , money is certainly well spent thats where the most money goes in loudspeakers anyway.
Sometimes you see loudspeakerfilters chucked full with the most expensive coils and caps , i will not say it could not sound good but clever filter lay out is far more important , i could explain my self more but i wont:D

What are you trying to say here - that these are not sounding good or worth the money before you know anything but the price?

I can guarantee that you haven't tried whats in the Tidal Audio La Assoluta simply becuase it has not been tried before.

No , i am just saying that they (parts )are expensive , and maybe considered the best on paper , but in real life are not the ultimate .
i ve gone the perfect piston loudspeakerdesign road , but have changed my opinion since.

Ok, fair enough. It will be interesting to see how this speaker finally sounds.
