I said I would never buy another Turntable...Argh !!!

Christian, you had better laugh, it’s better than crying LOL.
Seriously, you are in effect the beta tester for active under AS, to add to David’s unequivocal non recommendation.
I really can’t see Mike getting mileage if both of you definitely haven’t.
I’m always spending Mike’s hard earned. Now I’m trying to stop HIM spending it .

Drum roll...isolation off, isolation passive, isolation active.

Much to my chagrin, when active is engaged, the sound is deadened, less open and airy. It sounds best with the unit on and only in passive mode (active off). Bummer !!!
It was easy to hear and David confirms my findings...
David was right.

what are the effects of the three modes on bass articulation and texture? image focus?

if you are not ready to yet comment on that I understand. when you can.

This is similar to what people suggested to me in private messages when I was considering comparing my passive Vibraplane to an active device under my suspended SME table.

Congratulations again Christian and David. This seems like an incredible turntable and marvel of manufacturing and design. You and the other few owners are so lucky to have such components. I very much appreciate your continuing to report your set up procedure and listening impressions. And over time, some more photographs would be fantastic. What a project.

For lack of a better expression...it over-damps the sound. The music is deader, less open and airy. I can't comment yet on those specifics with the bass...sadly it appears active AVI units are not a good match for this turntable. I experienced the same thing previously with my Clearaudio Master Innovation but was in denial. Perhaps some un-damped resonance is good.

Christian

didn't you find the same thing with the Herzan under your AF1 which you stated in an earlier post.

+1!!!

Wow! Wow! Wow!

The machining quality looks incredible!

Bravo, David!!! :D

Thanks Fella's. This turntable has really closed the gap between LP and RTR Tape. The bass, dynamics, the ambience, the air. I'm floored. I feel bad for my other TT's....they may be collecting more dust...

Why did you have to say that? I hate dusting off my tts. Does a portable vacuum cleaner come with the package?

Sell those obsolete turntables, guys, and buy more tapes! :)

i'm sitting on the fence at to whether I need to hold on to my NVS to have a reference to compare to the AS. I will be paying close attention to how this part with you goes down. I know what I heard in David's room on this issue. and long term I don't plan on collecting tt's (not that there is anything wrong with that, or that it's not fun and cool to do.....just I've done it and ended up just listening to one). one great tt with 4 arms and a couple of phono stages fully scratches my vinyl itch.

With all those wonderull sounding and built turntables , some modern design ultra high end R2R would fit right in :)
Its the only thing thats missing in the high end industry afaic

Ps comparing side by side is the best solution , but you know that already :D
