Haha
That's why I mentioned on post #2497 : "Believe it or not ... ".
:)

what is there to believe... that a CD is magnetized by a laser hitting it? Or that light is affected by a magnetized medium? What the heck is this... a black hole sucking up light in my player? And I can fix it with a demagnetizer? Are you guys really serious?

The copy process could only be affected if the CDs are severely scratched, and you do not choose "bit perfect" copy in the menu, which makes the computer read any questionable spots over and over again until it makes sure the copy is correct.

But it begs the question how a demagnitizer or removing static would help in this case.

The fact is that nearly every CAS audiophiles in HK perform these snake-oil rituals before ripping.

Excellent suggestion!

I would too when we are discussing at Extreme levels and would accept only a 1st generation rip to multiple HDD's (or PCIe's)for master and backup at the same time using at least a high spec gaming rig and possibly powered by a full linear supply with an approved audiophile grade powercord.

These stored master rips will then be then be physically transplanted into the server/streamer or NAS.

The outcome will not subtle, bettering any fuse upgrades etc, etc......

Isn’t this rather what Tidal and Qobuz have already done for us? :)

in a previous life, I have done all the careful ripping with cd lathe / cleaning / nespa etc and it is seriously boring...

A few years ago I extracted my entire CD collection plus that of my father. I did it with dB Poweramp. As everyone who has used it knows, this program searches its database and offers you the CD cover. I soon realized that 99% of these covers were worthless. In general, low resolution and in many cases not scanned with the same width as height, so that in the iPad app they looked bad. Solution: I scanned them ALL, approximately 2,000 CD. I think I would not be able to do it again.

Fortunately you don’t need to anymore these days. Roon takes care of metadata and album art.

Unfortunately Roon doesnt come up with the correct album art very often, just a hi-rez offering. This leads me to believe Roon selects resolution over authenticity....if Roon used the release date in the file to get the album cover that would be best

My experience as well, so I set "Prefer File" on every import setting I can. Roon has placed a surprisingly low priority on handling classical music. For any useful sorting, I currently put composer in the artist tag, but it still has some quirks (on which Roon support has been working for over a month now). And no matter what I do, Roon most often uses its own track name and composition grouping. That said, I find no better application for library management and playback. I could say more, but this thread is for the SGM Server, about which I am keenly interested.

Emile can set up a file (via Team Viewer) to drop any downloaded files into that will automatically upload onto the PCIe drives.

you simply need a CPU that is on your LAN that can 'see' the Extreme.

Hi Mike

On the desktop of my laptop , there is a folder called "music". When I spoke to Emile today he told me that that folder is the same type of drop box he created for you where files placed into this folder are automatically copied to the internal memory cards. Thanks for the head's up

cool; the ripping world is now your oyster.

then go to Roon interface and select the most recent addition and you will see the file.

when you get your new 'super secret dac' i recommend visiting the Reference Recording website and download a few of the 176/24 files to the PCIe drive where you already have CD references. might be a good place to start to appreciate higher rez PCM and what it can do compared to a good CD. that's just scratching the surface on that subject. you will start to appreciate going 'native' with a digital source.

That's not possible. Upon live replay of a disc through a transport treatment might make a difference, since then it is about exact timing of the bits. But once you copy a CD to a hard drive this aspect falls away. Copied bits are copied bits.

If it could make a difference, then you could never reliably copy data from a CD Rom, for example. This is just not the case. We've done that repeatedly with scientific data in our lab, in the pre flash drive days.

I preferred the dBpoweramp CD Ripper because it includes the AccurateRip verification process that checks and warns us if the rip is bit exact comparing it with an existing database, validated statistically. Unless we are sure that the rips are perfect there is no point in claiming our equipment is bit exact.

Unfortunately there is no equivalent for DSD rips of SACDs.

Yesterday, I received Light Harmonic new DAC [Da Vinci MK III Sire]. (World First)

Da Vinci MK III Sire sound style is similar to SGM Extreme, so very good matching.

In Korea, Extreme's best DAC is Select II Full Option, and next is Da Vinci MK III Sire.

Because LH is not released this DAC, I can't tell you in detail.

Coming soon~! Very reasonable and awesome DAC~!!!

Since USB appears to be the preferred digital connection on the Taiko SGM Extreme, which USB cable are actual owners using?

Based on the customer experiences with previous products of this company, I’m not sure if this is something worth promoting.
