I look at it that way putting speakers in a closet and expect good sound no it wont work .
Putting speakers in an open fiield doesnt work either.
There is an optimum with which can one gets the best results.
Depending on speaker membrane surface
For exact room dimensions you d better ask a good acoustician.
I always found a trapezium shaped room the best sounding.
Speakers against the short wall.
With active bass / adjustment you cant put tubes on the lowerregisters any more.
With the chronosonic i would reckon .
5 -6 meter wide 8 m long and at least 1 m ceiling clearance from the top of the speaker.
But im no expert

my sense is around 16' x 24' x 10' is where 'large room' allowing full scale starts. i say around because there are an infinite amount of variables involved. but if someone (with dynamic cone speakers) is 'clean sheet of paper' starting that is where i'd want to be minimally. that allows large speakers to breathe.

OTOH a more medium sized room can be easier to figure out. with size you do get extremes of issues since you are going to pushing the system's headroom more.

I found in this report at TAS:

http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/first-we-take-manhattan/

When I read the last chapter „The case can be made that the Chronosonic XVX is actually a conceived replacement for the XLF, which will be phased out of production.“
This is the first time you can read honestly that the XLF-era will end through XVX. So rumours are right.
For me the new flagship has two real innovations in a serial model: The new midrange driver and the skeleton side wings with aluminium.

So following this logic I ask myself if we will find the often used trickle down strategy and will also in 1-2 years find new models of Alexx and Alexia with new midrange and enhanced side structure.

Probably Wilson Audio will refuse because the sales are O.K. and this would be bad for actual purchases of Wilson clients. But IMO my idea is not so far away...:)

I would feel very happy if Wilson considers that the XVX is a replacement of the XLF - at a cost of more than 50% over the XLF list price, these seem to be great and assuring news to some current XLF owners. The XLF was a crazy move, XVX would be complete madness ...

I have no doubts that the XVX is a better speaker, but my admiration for the XLF will not change with it. Besides, as I enjoy playing with tube electronics, the XLF allows me to play some games that will be forbidden with the XVX. ;)

It does seem that from the X 2 a downwardtrend has been going on (regarding high eff. High imp curve )
All speakers after that are harder to drive ( lower eff. Lower imp dips.)
Obviously a wilson design choice , im sure dan dagostino is happy with it.

Kedar sent me this video to get more feel of the Wilson top level system sound. For those who have listened to the Master Croc, would you say they have a pretty similar sound "presentation" to this XLFs?

Kedar , did those boulder 3050 s sound a bit clinical in any way?
Curious also what pre amp was used in this system also boulder?

Hi that is not a video I recorded, I did not listen to that system. I have separately heard a 2160 with the YG Hailey 2 that were really good. I have heard them sound pretty bad at shows with the YG though, and have heard with TAD reference which I did not like. I think boulder has great power and nuance, it can be clinical but that needs to managed by upstream source and cabling.

As such after hearing the Lampi Pacific 242 with audionet stern and Heisenberg, if I had the money, I would just buy those audionet and be done

I will try to check the current solid state level at the munich show incl audionet , im curious also to hear dartzeel.
But pull me away from convergent ?
Hmm not likely , may be lamm(ml3 ) can do the trick , but i got to hear them first.
Coming back to this thread i m eager to hear this ultimate wilson time alignment project .
And hear if all other manufacturers have indeed been doing it wrong all along

Bonz - is that XVX video a Wilson given demo? I thought Wilson almost always shows with D'agostino.
Clinical? I stopped listening pretty quickly.

Thnx. I didn't see attribution on Youtube. I'd be reluctant to take it as 'representative.'

Videos "representative" of the sound of XLF's? You must be joking ... :)

I heard the 2060 / 2010 combo once on kharma midi exquisite , i didnt like it , it sounded a bit cool clinical .
I would definetively ad a tubed pre .
But there is something about boulder gear , its made to perfection .
From all the solid state ive owned i was reluctant to let the boulder amp go

Any system. If can't even get to sound decent on video recorded from a simple hand phone, that system is crap. And this is not to generalize that the equipments on that particular system would be crap in someone else's system

well....ok.....when i gaze into my micro crystal ball i see a pair of XVX's appearing in his room about 4 months after his Lamm's find a new home. '>>allows me to play some games<<' translated means >>i need to be able to enjoy these Lamm's while i have them<<.

just say'n.

you heard it here first. likely not the first one to think it including micro.

Well, unless you are going to sell me a pair of XVX's in the same terms you sold me the ML3's I can say your crystal ball is loosing its power ... ;) For me the XVX price is out of what I want to spend in this hobby. BTW, the current player in the game is the Marantz Project T1, not the Lamm's.

That is a video (one of many) by an owner who i believe is from Korea. He shows his videos from the same location in his room, and the system has been steadily upgraded over time as you will tell from the older videos. I believe he runs the current ref Boulder preamp, DCS reference and Boulder 3050 monos.
