Speakers for Kondo Ongaku... Please Help

....

Here you have compared the Kondo - with an unsuitable speaker - against another amp to which the speaker fits!

So you ignored totally my post where I said why I did that, as a counter to Ron, as well as the fact that it is just one of the data points I am using consistent with my other impressions

And here @ audio shows ....

You are quoting out of context. It is one of the data points with other experiences, not just that experience. And my point was kondo fans should point out if it is non representative. If they say that is a good sound God help them

why not partially active speakers. this way the Kondo can play to its strengths to the full when it doesn't have to struggle with the bass;)
Interesting speakers...more or less conventional but with quite high sensitivity because they have unloaded the bass onto DSP based amplification built-in.

with OB speakers, the efficiency can go way up to work well with SET amps. another brand at a much lower cost is Spatial, who I believe has crossed a horn ala Diesis to the big woofers before. runs often on 10 watt ZOTL at shows.

I feel guilty again about the Kondo Munich rooms the last few years. I introduced Kondo to Kaiser, I think back in 2016. I had played the Kagura on the Kaiser Kawero but in a small room. I really liked it. Sold three Kawero/Kagura systems at the time and the customers still have the and love the combination. Colored to many I guess, beautiful sound to others.

Then because of availably of rooms at Munich for 2018/2019 Kondo/Kaiser took half of the available GIANT MBL room. The room that Kondo/Kaiser had to me was a beautiful room, BUT way too large for the Kondo amps driving the Kaisers. I would say that a lot of people still liked those rooms and even stood up and applauded after certain tracks were played.

Surely not your cup of tea Ked, but there were a lot of people that really liked the sound in that room. Me, I thought the Kaisers were under driven.
Yes, I heard this room as well...unfortunate is the way I would put it...I would never have made that pairing and especially not in that room size.

Or Pure Audio Project...much more affordable and we have some owners here on WBF that think they are great.

I first heard OB speakers with the Alta Audio Titanium Hestia speakers. A little more expensive, I think now $33K. It was my first experience with OB. Just like when I first heard Maggies and then Apogees in the 80's they "did the trick" for me. The Altas are only 90db and like some power, but they are OB, but with a sealed bass cabinet (nice combination). imo, all OB, including the spatial and the Pure Audio Project have an open sound that again, works for me. Pretty much the same as I enjoy most panel speakers as well, Maggies included.

The Alta audio at your place was quite musical especially for the size

Yup. I REALLY liked them but could not sell them. Alta sells a lot of their smaller models, which are quite nice as well. I gave up and moved on, but highly respect Alta and their owner/designer, Mike Levy.

The big Living Voice system in Munich, paired with Kondo electronics sounded pretty good to my ears, it was actually my favourite room, apart from the room that played the big Western systems. Perhaps Living Voice could be a nice choice for your Ongaku.

I loved the LV room. I wanted to carry LV after hearing that room. It ended up being a bit pricey and I did not have the appropriate/sized room to demonstrate them properly.

Kevin is moving away from kondo. He was going to have different electronics in 2020 (didn't happen) let's see this time

Yes, he moved away from Kondo, like you said. He was actually going to do his own electronics, but like you say that didn't happen. Not sure what happened with Engstrom and LV, which I thought prior to Covid is where he was heading. No idea really.

That's wild if he is, I never heard that. I would have a hard time believing that Kevin is moving away from tubes for the LV.

I think I heard that from someone in the UK that he was either going to do it or was seriously thinking about it. I was quite surprised, and it made me think of Gian60 and JackD201 both of whom have spent a lot of time with SET (Lamm, Kondo, etc) both moving across to CH expressly on the basis that among other things the crystalline purity of CH is similar to part of the magic of SET.

Supravox has a very nice open baffle speaker...heard it twice and thought it was really good... and about 96db.

There was a room in 2019 (I think) with Engstrom electronics...wasn't even close to the room with Kondo...
