Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

match the Extreme’s matte black case?

We are going to try getting the same finish on the solid copper blocks but for identical we may need to resort to anodised Aluminium, unfortunately that does add about 3 months and it’s harder to guess the cost due to not knowing the discard rate in advance. You can probably tell I have developed a very strong adversity against Aluminium, and in particular Anodising. It has been THE #1 cause of Extreme shipment delays, we have lost entire batches of server chassis due to anodising mistakes as these tend to be irreversible. So we are going to do everything we can to get as close as we can in other ways.

as much as I wanted copper I am going chrome which I also think to be very attractive. I don't want to wait nor do I want to take chances with anodizing. It's not a show piece ....it's a switch and with Emile's comment not to place it on the floor the switch will occupy my CMS platform sitting on the shelf below the Extreme. I gather that the shortest cable length necessary is the one to use so I'm going with the 2 meter cable

This coming year is going to be quite amazing for Taiko as well as we users who have been sitting patiently in this thread gleaning information on all the new goodies to be arriving

Happy New Year to to Emile and the Taiko team as well as to everyone on this forum who help to make it the success it has become. To elucidate the impact of Emile and this thread , there have been in the past 24 hours over 250 posts and over 12 pages of new information which has piqued everyone's interest . This thread is the most read (over 2 million views) and the most posted to (13,943). Congrats to all things Taiko

My concern about getting the chrome/mirror version is that it will sit on a shelf in view from my seat and I am concerned about reflected light.

It has too small a sfa for that to be a concern, and to actually create an exact 90 degree angle with what would need to be a spotlight would take some real effort to pull off :) But chrome is chrome!

...I think that is correct. I also think there may be an adapter for the RJ45 input *to* the switch. I recall Emile noting that previously, but he can confirm at some point. The order page asks to specify the input type: RJ45 or fiber.
The SFP+ *is* the adapter. SFPs -- small form-factor pluggable -- come in a variety of inputs, the most common being RJ45 (copper) and fiber. So you plug your existing copper UTP ethernet cable from your LAN into an RJ-45 SFP plugged into the input SFP cage of the Taiko switch, no additional adapters needed. Coming out of the switch to the network card the output SFP in the switch SFP cage is the proper type (provided by Taiko) for the DAC cable. Same deal at the input of the network card.

That part of me that is excited by getting more emotionally engaging sound from my already emotionally engaging “stereo system” has been hyper-stimulated by the revelations in these past many pages. I was leaning towards a finish to match my Extreme but will “settle” for chrome :) ORDER PLACED!!! A healthy, gratitude-rich 2023 to all @Taiko Audio and Extremists who have made this thread so fun and informative!

Spray paint it black?

My order is in! I can't wait.

Yes that’s possible.

So. If I have rj45 input to the switch at first, could this be changed to a DAC cable later if we wanted to go DAC between the router and switch?

@Emile-- would you expect any SQ benefit from using DAC vs. cat6 between router and switch?

It seems you could switch between the two by changing SFP+ modules from RJ45 to fiber.

Yes, as long as you stay within the 7m distance for passive DAC cables.

Yes you can change at any time. Perhaps but there it should be much smaller, directly into the Extreme is where it becomes „huge“.

Thanks. Bundle order has been made through my local dealer. This is a no brainer.

I have just ordered a Switch + Network Card combo from my dealer. Unfortunately I did not see that the price indicated on the website was "excluding taxes". Damn IVA !!
That was exactly me 1,5 years ago when ordering my Extreme online. VAT added a switch like little tip. :pBut then I realized since every country (even state) has differing VAT it makes sense to have prices quoted without VAT.

I see the Taiko router chassis has 1 SFP and 4 RJ45 ports.

The question is if swich has 2 SFPs ?
Yes it has !

Than we will go DAC cable all the way from router VIA switch with second DAC to Extreme.

There will be modem to Taiko Router with RJ45 for sure as it has only 1 SFP.

Last thing is an access point and how to connect it ?
I tested many APs and top performers are very good.
They all add very large amounts of niose unfortunate so I lower the power in their menu .
I also switch 5 GHz off as 2.4 has much less noise.

Go with RJ45 cable for ultimate playback or ask Emile to design Taiko Access Point ???

Well, three days away from the thread and I am completely lost! What is the page address for ordering? When can we expect the switch using the current standard finish to be shipped if ordered now?

Happy New Year!

You go to the Taiko site to place your order or order through a dealer. The Taiko site ordering is live.

Expected shipping for the initial Switch/chrome finish and the net card is at the end of February.

You might want to read the last three days of posts as there was a tremendous amount of valuable and interesting information distributed.

Thanks for summarizing. I posted because I had got the idea the switch was ready to be shipped ... :(
