Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Taiko-Network-Adapter-small.jpg

The new network card arrived today.

I have mentioned this before, but I would like to say it again :

The speed with which the new network card was manufactured and shipped is simply outstanding!

Investing in a Taiko Audio ecosystem (server, switch, router) means enjoying an uncommon, if not rare, after sales service :)

How about a few Wi-Fi extenders for your audio Wi-Fi? It’s not like these are very expensive :)
That's what I have now in all of my rooms but they are tied to the Araknis router/network.

I will figure it out, I was just using as an example as I think people will need this type of support and I don't think that Taiko should be supporting it to 200+ people in the future. It could be crippling.

Will it be possible to setup the Taiko Router with ease?

The idea is to have two sets of rules for the Taiko Router:

The first set of rules : complete isolation

The second set of rules : allows access to the HiFi network from the Home network.

Goal :

- Backup the music files and the Roon library from the Extreme to a NAS located in the home network

- Access the Extreme's Roon server from a machine on the home network. I like to manage the Roon settings and my library from a desktop machine.

Emile, looking at the diagram that you have published, I see that on the left side (Home Network) there is also a router with a wifi access point, this means that for the best SQ you have to turn off the Wifi of the Modem-Router (ISP) ?

Do you prefer RJ45 or DAC between Taiko Router and Taiko Switch?

I’m trying to understand why

Taiko Router > WiFi AP > iPad
would be preferable in sq to
Taiko Router > Lan > iPad. ?

In the great scheme of Taiko updates, after the router IIRC will be the new Extreme with BPS and that will be end game for most, myself included
What about TACDA/TACD?

I have a DAC
Yes, but if you have a supported DAC that will be able to use the new interface (now the DAC), like your Lampi will, watch and see if you don't go that route when available.

I do that now anyway. Turing off the Motorola ISP cable modem wireless network does make a noticeable improvement as it appears to be validated by others. I have a LAN go from the ISP modem to the Orbi Wi-Fi 6 router which then creates the wireless for the entire house. Another LAN goes directly to the the Switch in the music room- no wireless needed for that.

What I'm trying to understand is what advantage might be gained by inserting the Taiko Router here (red circle). Is it only to create a network to drive my ipad for the server? Is there anything to be gained in SQ by having the ipad only on its own audio network? Or does the mere addition of the Router provide an increase in SQ on its own ?

Your iPad that controls the Audio router needs to be on the SAME network as the Audio router. You can't have your Ipad on your other network.

Edit: I wish someone would say that I'm wrong with this and then I would be all set:)

I was wondering the same if the current router could be configured into the Audio Routers Network just for wifi. I probably shouldn't even be interjecting as this is over my head...

It depends on your main router. You have to configure it. And also what player you use- XDMS can be on a different network; roon cannot.
My MacBook is connected to the main router which then sends controls the music on the second router. Works for XDMS.

Thx. And yes, but I need access to Roon as well.

I just got off Facetime with Bob as this was easier to discuss by conversation (remember those?) than by email or thread posts. I'm much clearer on the intracacies but honestly, still a bit confounded. All I can say, is that it is times like this that having a dealer resource like Bob is worth its weight in gold - he's better than any corporate IT person I ever worked with! (Those folks are all the same: "Uh, I 'm sorry but you can't do that on a Mac"...)
