A 2000 Philips release of the two Dvorak symphonic masterpieces, 8 and 9 by a rather-young-looking Ivan Fischer and 'his' Budapest Festival Orchestra; Philips hybrid, multichannel SACD # 470 617-2.. I haven't heard this for a few years, but on my multichannel system with new-this-summer SoundLabs Majestic 745s driven by PS Audio BHK600 monos...
...it sounds JUST the way I like orchestral recordings to sound (but not many do)--it is VERY spacious, recorded in 'The Italian Institute' in Budapest and with a mic setup that sounds JUST right.. Sounds as if there's no spotmiking--maybe the recording engineer Roger de Schot used a Decca Tree?--with individual instruments sounding just right in size and level and massed instruments also sounding very natural and as if they all are playing in a concert hall...imagine that!
Some of us who like their bands closer to them may not like this recording, but those of us who listen to much real music in concert halls will love this.
That’s a great room Jeffrey. Like a true audiophile you “adjust” your rugs to suit the positioning of the speakers. The Fischer release sounds excellent to me. I will definitely check it out.
