A new star in 2019 : Innuos Statement Server

Last night I compared a few tracks played off my NAS to the same tracks streamed from Qobuz as I had wondered if the EtherRegen might have leveled the playing field. I struggled to hear a difference. That was most certainly not the case earlier this year. I say more about it here: https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/...g-impressions/?do=findComment&comment=1006051

I don't store any music on my Zenith even though I did think it sounded slightly better there than on my NAS (though the far greater difference was between NAS and Tidal/Qobuz). I'm guessing from the post that follows mine on AS that local storage might have lost the advantage as well thanks to the EtherRegen. I'm wondering if others have found this to be the case.

I would agree with Blackmorec‘s post here:

If the ER is making a positive contribution to the overall quality of the network, then yes, it certainly can play a role in leveling the playing field between local and network storage. I do not base this on my personal experience with the ER but on that of SOtM switch.

I own the Innuos Statement and posted a review of it over on A-gon. It replaced an Antipodes DX3. Based on the responses over on A-gon, lots of folks have heard the Statement and rave about it. However, one person is adamant that the CX+EX combo betters the Statement (in his opinion). Yet, so far I haven't heard of anyone else who has actually directly compared the Statement with the CX+EX combo. I'm happy with my Statement and not looking to change, I'm simply wondering where are all the people who have heard the current Antipodes flagship?
Al, I own the Cx/ ex combo and am thrilled with it. Have not heard the Innuos. However, the dealer I bought the antipodes from carries both, and prefers it to the innuos for sound quality. At the level of this gear, I really think it’s a matter of personal preference. David

Antipodes was the natural choice for a guy from the antipodes. So I now have the Antipodes CX here and am using the Sotm ultra as the render endpoint. I’m loving it. The combination is so musically involving and fully engaging and in truth I’m just completely caught up deeply in the music each and every session these days. Even after some 600hrs the Antipodes is still opening up and getting even a just bit more fab and alive and I’m enjoying the ride more and more as I go.

Certainly ‘perfect world’ me would have loved to have gone Extreme but real world me is completely happy having gone with the Antipodes CX as server.

The Sotm Ultra as endpoint brings a dash of the rich and fiery to that musically effortless extended and fluid Antipodes signature. Really a great match and the sum of the parts is proving to be way greater than I’d expected or even hoped for. The Antipodes Sotm pairing will do everything I need till something perhaps even a little more extreme comes this way but in truth I could just stay completely happy with what is here already.

Ausify: Hi again Alex. It’s been a while. I’ve been absorbed listening to my Statement. To say I’m enthusiastic about it would be an under”statement!” It simply transports me on lush waves of sound with rich timbres and detail. Soundstage is huge. Bass extension deeper. Vocalists. As they say, are there in the room with you.
Part of our last exchange related to whether AIFF files imported from a NAS would remain AIFF or be converted to WAV. During a recent audio show I found a true authority on the matter. Turns out you can do either, controllable by a switch in the Statement setup. I don’t remember where it is, just that you can accomplish move the files in whichever of the 2 formats you prefer.
If you told me this before I apologize. I’m a bit slow on the uptake sometimes!

So happy to hear you trail blazing tweaks to this device. I’m a Cardas guy using Clear series cables, including power for the Statement. Better to my ears than stock. Stillpoints worked nicely but they have some unwanted effects too so I’ve just ordered CenterStage2 footers (4 sets for other parts of the system too). Looking forward to hearing their effect.
Now you’ve introduced something I’ve wondered about since getting the Statement; upgrading the umbilical cord. Absolutely want to try that too. Is there a model or part # for it?
I have so enjoyed your literary masterpieces describing your experiences with the unit. You are able to put into words what I sense when engaged with the Statement. Hours almost every night since January. My dedicated listening space is closed off from the rest of our home so my wife, a shrink who works late s couple nights a week, can be home for a couple hours and I don’t even know it! She knows where to find me!
Please keep t up. With much appreciation,

Is the umbilical a DB25 cable? If it is, I can heartily recommend something.

Thanks for the kind words....I’m really glad you’re enjoying the Statement as much as I do. Its really allowed me to realise a hi-fi dream I’ve had for 40 years....completely believable music with absolutely nothing to spoil the illusion. IMO the Chord umbillicals are expensive but what they do for what is already amazing sound makes them worth the money. With the umbilicals I have no hesitation in saying that the Statement will exceed your most ambitious expectations for what a digital file can deliver musically.

Unfortunately I have no idea what they are. All I know is that they arrived in a Chord box with a significant price tag ..... Due to the high price and the fact that I already had great sound I decided they had to justify their purchase on sound quality alone (I wanted longer cables, but not that much). Anyway once they were run in it was a no-brainier.

Wishing you both a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year

You too. Had you needed a quality DB25, I could have recommended one that dramatically has upped the ante on my preamp/overall sound.

I have found another option from Alma. $1,350. Any thoughts vs the Chord, or is it one and the same?

Innuos is now supplying these. They're a little hesitant to call it an upgrade, though they admit they sound different than the stock ones.
We should have some soon to play with. Oh, they're also handy if you want to separate the power supply from the main unit, as you can get a 1.5m long umbilical.

I specifically bought the cables in order to mount the 2 boxes on individual rack shelves, but at that price it was far too much just to get longer cables. Chord claim they make a significant improvement in SQ and that is indeed what i found.

Blackmorec: I am joining you. Ordered the new umbilical cord through my local dealer, Audio Doctor (Dave).

You will need to be patient with burn in. All these low current DC cables seem to take quite some time to produce their best sound.

Blackmorec: In your opinion should I wait until the Critical Mass CenterStage2 footers settle in before installing the new umbilical cord? That way I can hear what impact both changes make. If I install them together I will hear the ultimate objective sooner but perhaps not the true impact of each.
Thanks,
popspin

I would think that the CM footers will settle in a lot faster (3 or 4 days maybe) than the umbilicals; so personally i would do the footers first. That way you can be entirely confident that both brought the improvements you need to achieve to justify their high prices. Also its useful to know the type of changes each brIngs to your system......

I have added umbilicals and based on that result I added 2 Neotech JSSG360 DC cables. In all cases the system lost its almost magical ability to instantly pull me into the music and generate intense emotions....but in all cases that ability was enhanced once the cables were broken in. Rather than hearing ‘hi-fi’ related changes that i can easily describe the changes are now mainly down to my reaction to the system. For a parallel, imagine listening to your local University Symphony Orchestra vs. the VPO playing the same composition. Its all the same music and the same notes, but the effect it has on you is very different

I will follow your lead on this. I have been trying to grasp just how long the CenterStage2 footers really take to settle in. It appears the 2 version cuts that period down significantly. 3-4 days is an acceptable time to wait before installing the umbilical cord.
Please allow me to add another piece into the equation; the new IsoTek Nova3 power conditioner. With that in the mix how would you order the sequence of introduction to the system.
Thanks again!
