Affordable ethernet filters

Another review dropped on the SmoothLan Regenerator.

I see where some of the pricier Ethernet cables include filter-like features that might obviate the need for yet another network box (and cable)? Examples: Shunyata Reference Ethernet cables, WW Platinum Starlight. Anyone compared one of these with using a separate filter product?

No the most glowing of reviews.
I take reviewers as seriously as I take forums. With return privileges you buy, try and if it’s not for you, return. And like any audition it will depend on the components in the chain, evident in this review.

The Ear is the new What HIFI. Anything that smells UK gets raving reviews.
So you say. As I have had this devise in my system for 4 weeks, I can attest they are right and you're not.....

Hi All,
I’ve had the SmoothLan for almost two weeks now. This coming Monday evening will be the 2 week mark actually. Initially the Soundstage collapsed and things seemed dis-jointed. Within an hour I commented to an Audio bud that it was starting to grab my attention. At around the 2 hr mark I indicated to him that I was noticing more detail and the soundstage had started to improve. It’s been playing nonstop with either a mix of different genre’s or the Tellurium Q break-in disc. As of tonight I’ve noticed much more lower register control, no over modulation with Bass content. The soundstage is as it should be; nice and wide and deep. I reached out last weekend to Stack Audio asking about the differences between this filter and the Regenerator. I asked if there was any redundancy if both were used. I’m toying with ordering that as well and take advantage of the 60 day trial. Very curious as to how they compare as well as how they interact together.
Cheers….Mike

The ethernet cables have noise reduction of a lower order of magnitude, thought they generally have lower potential for negative effects than the filter boxes. One isn't a substitute for the other.

Thank you in advance for your reply.
Warm greetings

Dear Sir,

I read your text very carefully. Thank you for the detailed and very useful device test. I received my sample of SmoothLan conditioner yesterday afternoon. I plugged it in as prescribed and left it for an hour without activating it. I then turned on the Moon 780D v2 and started listening to music via the Qobuz platform. At first I had the impression that the stereo image had decreased. After one or two hours, the situation improved, but until the end of listening (another three hours), I was left with the impression that the reproduction is a bit quieter than usual. My question is about the length of the burn in period for this device and what I can expect in the coming days(weeks).

Hoping to hear from owners of the Stack Audio SmoothLAN Regenerator who can speak to its real world strengths and weaknesses.

Had one worked well. Lots of reviews on the interweb. Sold my unit after going Optical. I would save your money and find a Muon Pro on the secondary market.

Thanks! It sounded better after 48 hours, and needed about 200 hours to fully break in. Keep in mind it doesn't matter if you are playing music, just the normal connection to the network will do it. In fact you can plug it into anyplace an ethernet wire would go in your home, and let it burn in without having to listen to it.

Thank you for your reply.
If I understood correctly, it is important that data flows through the device, not necessarily musical material. And that the device is online for about 200 hours (with and without data flow).
Warm greetings

200 hours of data flow.

Modern times, new technologies. After 200 hours, I will forget where I started and where I went, but oh well. If some HiFi equipment manufacturer had said 40 years ago that the burn-in period for his devices was 100, 200, 300...hours, strong guys with long-sleeved white shirts that buttoned on the back would have come for him very quickly.

Stack Audio Smooth-LAN Regenerator user experience for the first seven days.
1st day An hour from connection, a total disaster in relation to the reproduction of the system without the Regenerator. Quiet sound, stereo image the size of a shoebox.
Day 2 The volume returned, the musicians lined up vertically like on a Native American totem pole.
Day 3 Noticeable improvement, stereo image increased in height, sound volume normal. The musicians have separated a little but are still pushing each other with their elbows and breathing heavily.
Day 4 Oh, better much better. The tones are pleasant, the musicality peeked out, the stereo image is wider but within the limits between the speakers, the height is decent.
5th day Saturday. Relaxed listening. First quieter and calmer music. Then classical works. After alternative and indie. Then there's rock and pop. More modern production, calmer jazz. Well, modern jazz (ECM, ACT). Everything falls into place. And very nice.
Day 6 Extended listening session. From morning until late at night. Similar repertoire as the previous day. Until 21:00. I started playing Yello Touch. Auhhhh, everything has opened up, the scene is huge, the stereo image is beautiful, the atmosphere is incredible. Yello in full force. In a word, a revelation.
Those six days were very intense. The device is perfect. It added so much to the sound quality that the bigger one was great I couldn't believe it. I can freely and confidently recommend it to everyone, especially owners of high-quality streamers.
First of all, I would like to thank the reviewer who got me interested in the Stack Audio product line. Extremely realistic display and welcome advice. I will wait for the recommended 200 hours of burn-in period with philosophical peace.
My respect and thanks to the Stack Audio crew. Professional when ordering, they understood me and fulfilled all my wishes. Such an attitude towards a potential customer is rare. They have a superior product in this domain. Buying, sending and receiving the order went smoothly. My deepest respect, gentlemen.
