After days of calling. No answering machine. And a few email. I can say Ayre does not care about its customer service. I moved on. Not going to get the VX-5 Twenty. I may get a Schiit Ragnaroc. Probably a better fit. The volume will help dial the volume. I sort of fell relieved. Something was telling me I didn't want the Ayre anyway.

Oh man... that is not my experience at all. When you call, Jake Forsyth should be pretty reachable but I think you click thru a button in the menu. He will be very bothered by this experience as they really are great people.
I LOVE my Ayre gear and just finished getting my MX-R mono amps upgraded to "Twenty" status. I have owned a VX-5 Twenty for several years now and used to own a KX-5 Twenty as well. Those 2 pieces make me want the R series stuff. I could not be happier. When my friend came to hear my setup, he bought the KX-5 Twenty on the spot and he loves it. So, I upgraded. Then I upgraded the VX-5 Twenty to MX-R... then upgraded the MX-Rs. Note - the sound of "regular MX-R" is different than the VX-5 Twenty. If I had to pick, I'd pick the VX-5 Twenty. When talking about Twenty series MX-R... then it's a different story. It's about the Diamond Circuit.
In my experience, the Diamond Circuit that Ayre uses is a very special thing. I can't unhear it and, until I hear something I like better, that is what I will use. Musical AND Detail, with ZERO fatigue. My speakers are very well balanced, so there's that too.
If you'd like to discuss more, feel free to reach out. I'd hate to see you miss out on at least trying it... it's different, with a purpose.
There are a lot of "usual suspects / names" that people chase in audio. I am off of that train for a long, long time.
That ship has sailed for me. Maybe you have a contact other than what is published on the Ayre website. Or maybe they went on vacation and didn't bother to put a vacation notice on their voicemail and email. Although they've had 3 to 4 weeks to return my email.
My client, who had the Ayre has since sold it and moved on to Thrax, I believe.
