If you could travel back in time, what would you tell yourself as a young audiophile?

I am not sure I fully agree here as some speaker placement rules really do give optimal musical engagement. That’s less about personal taste, at least in that one parameter.

An optimal speaker placement will not necessarily optimize every single parameter to a maximum: bass, soundstage, dynamics, body in low midrange, cleanness of sound (avoidance of excitement of room distortion) etc. There will be trade-offs, even though the overall most optimal musical engagement may be achieved.

Rules or not, in practical terms the optimal speaker position will depend on many parameters, and to some extent also on individual taste.

To younger self: You won't believe how much you will have invested in audio gear!

Also: Don't work so damn hard.

I would desperately try to remind myself of the definition of "Snake Oil" and the potential of sliding down the gulible audiophile rabit hole to the detriment of my future bank account balance!

I am from the south (Virginia, Tennessee, Florida). You're a carpetbagger from Hollywood putting on a phony accent to sound folksy.
Do carpetbaggers get any credit for liking Maker's Mark?
