JackD201 - Almost Done

Jack, support to you and everyone affected, from the UK. We're getting our fair share of flooding here, so have an inkling about what it might be like. But can't compare to the dread realisation. Kudos to your battling attitude to salvage, wait, plan and execute a new listening room. Maybe get it well above ground level. Marc.

We've just been hit by the most rainfall on record and water has gotten into the listening room

http://news.yahoo.com/floods-cover-more-half-philippine-capital-040620635.html

Everything has been disconnected and eventually almost everything must come down. I am bummed but what I am going through is nothing more than an inconvenience compared to what millions of my countrymen are suffering.

We pride ourselves in our ability to bounce back, smiles on our faces. In a few months I hope to reseal the room with better engineered solutions and get the system singing again. In the meantime please join me in praying for those affected by the deluge.

My heart goes to you and your countrymen. I know the feeling all too well. Keep the faith and the smile ...

Thanks so much guys. Important thing is everybody is safe and healthy.

To find the leaks all the double walls have to come down and with them all the built in treatments. All the gear is safe and sound so no problems there. The floors will definitely have to be replaced. At least I got flood insurance. Can't beat mother nature. Ever the optimist I've got some ideas on the rebuild. Maybe change the look while I'm at it. At least the bedroom system ain't too shabby. :D

Have music, will smile. :D

Seems to be dying down now and I've been monitoring the district I used to represent. So far the local officials are telling me that things are manageable. There are a few hundred families that are in need of relief but the ball is rolling.

Having gone thru Hurricane Sandy last year (we were fine, but the devastation was unbelievable less than a mile away), I know what a horror show this is.
On your system, one of the things that concerns me as we shop for property is the idea of a below ground set up. Even with the best waterproofing, at some point, you are still below water, the ground gets soaked, etc. I know you did a significant build out to that space, but if you are going to have to do a re-do, do you have the space or property to build something on the second floor of a building?
Thoughts with you on the system, and more generally, for all that human tragedy from this kind of event.

Jack,

so sorry to hear. Safety is first, but once that is settled, the pain of going thru a rebuild is still always trying. We had a tree go right thru the middle of the house during a hurricane and water came thru and flooded nearly half of it...spent 3 months with insurers and eventually got underway. I suppose the 'silver lining' is...you get to use the insurance proceeds perhaps to do an even better soundroom than your original? ;) always look for the silver lining...good luck.

Jack,

Sorry to learn about such strong floods and its consequences - such catastrophes are always terrible but we are mostly sensitive to them when they happen to friends.

Sorry to hear that Jack, you know that we have had our share as well here in Mexico, mother nature reminding us to take care first and back to the basics... anyway, hope you can recover and your country suffers the less.

Fernando

Jack, I am joining you in these times of natural inconvenience. Our friendship is getting stronger by the day, in moments of hardship.

Jack: I had this problem with my current home. I know how painful this is. Think positive. At my place, many man hours were spent digging up the around foundation, installing drain tile and sealant. That work for a few years, then the week link was water thru the entry door, again many hours of labor tried to correct this and we did. This only linger problem is insuring the the french drain is always free of slit and leaves. I have had water inside for about two years.

I redid the interior walls and floor with stone tile. It does not grow mil drew like drywall and carpet.

Keep the faith and good luck!

Jack,

My very best wishes to you, your family, friends and countrymen.

These things are happening everywhere this year, which may be small consolation, but hopefully the community, your government, other nations and aid agencies can ease the burden a little.

Stay safe my friend!

Very sorry to hear this Jack. You and your fellow countrymen keep safe.

Good luck, and I'm glad you and your music are OK (they're the most important things!)

Wow, terrible, my sympathies for all in the wake of the floods. It is such a lovely room, but people are more important than things. At least equipment and sources rescued.

My wife's relatives got kicked around by Katrina, though not as bad as some, but took two years to get everything repaired and back to "normal."

ouch.. I hope you recover from the flooding fully. I really feel sorry for our countrymen who were hit hard. I was watching the news at TFC earlier today - I admire the resilience of the Filipino people. A lot of them still managed to smile while dealing with a major calamity.

you are lucky you have flood insurance - in Canada, most insurance companies won't cover flood (force majeure). Many families in southern Alberta lost everything to flood that way not too long ago.

I lived in Manila for over 10 years before moving to Canada. Flooding was an issue back then, and I think it got a lot worse since. It scare me think think how bad it will get with all the climate change stuff and the abuse in natural resources (forest) in the future.

This picture of people dealing with the flooding was taken a couple of years ago, scary!

Holy Cr--!!!!!!!!!! I've never seen that pic before!

I've reassembled the team. Civil Engineer, Civil works contractor and Architect tomorrow, Acoustician and IDs will come in next week.

So begins "The Lair"'s transition into hopefully something even better sounding and sexier. Drier too of course! :D

With speakers twice the size coming in I figure it is an opportune time to reduce the bass lift I had engineered into the response, re-situate the dedicated lines and finally fix the lighting fixtures rattled loose by deep bass.

Still raining. A peak at some sunshine would be nice.
