Lampizator announcement: launch of our all new TOTL HORIZON DAC

Master Yoda is in the house All I can say is Lukasz is a blast and is filled with so many life challenging stories that he had us gasping

He's jet lagged and we put him to bed.. Busy day tomorrow and fFred arrives tomorrow eveningt

Lukas taught me something very interesting about the Horizon for those of us who use SE rather than balanced

He suggested that rather than using a quad set of power tubes(where the two power tubes on the right of center are for balanced ), that I take out those two good tubes on the right and fill those sockets with any cheap tube
Is Master Yoda suggesting that there will be a sonic advantage to doing so?
If not, and if they aren't uber expensive tubes, I'd choose to go with the visual symmetry of matched pairs.

Interesting here is the fact that the symmetry line goes vertically in this machine, as you could and CAN do exactly the same with the balanced B7,GG2, PAC and TRP, but here the line is "horizontal" ;) and you simply remove front pair from the DACs and leave just the back one for the SE operation.

He said that the 2 tubes on the right sit in idle. There is no sonic advantage other than preserving 2 extra tubes . I do agree about the aesthetics however I listen with lights out

Wow. Tell that to Spectral and others whose input impedance is 10K for a reason. As Steve said, let your ears be the judge, but a relevant question that has not yet been answered (unless I missed it) is- what is the output impedance of the Horizon? Is it low as in 2 ohms (Soulution 725), 7 ohms (like Gryphon Commander) or 25 ohms (VTL 7.5III)? Or high as in 300 ohms (ARC Ref 10). Just curious. It's not a trick question, but a legitimate one.
600 ohms , but this is much lower then all past lampi dacs . they varied as bit from 1000 to 3000 ohms .

It's listed at 600 ohms per phase. I haven't noticed per phase in other impedance specs. Would that mean 1200 ohms total output impedance?

Not sure but it should be if balanced
let’s get an answer direct from Lampi.

Any word on the triode?

i looked up the owners man i could not see any output imp spec . but lampi does say an amp below 6k input imp some dynamics may be lost . a good rule is 10 to 1 as such 600 se seems correct and a bal will be doubled if measured across both pos phases . The amp also doubles from se to bal as well . im not a fan of no preamp if active but i can see the dac could drive amps direct . in a given system that has more then one source direct becomes moot i think . either way lampi has done it yet again with a truly new digital audio product with tubes got to love this .
ive owned lampi dacs for many years and each level or even style has its own new sound . i haver a trp and it uses some of these type tubes . This tells me it will be a very fast effortless sound making it closer to real music . Maybe lampi will be the one to truly approach the analog gods that rule audio . ill get to hear this new marvel in Florida a great place to hear great audio .

I’m guessing but I’ll bet it’s adjustment to the output voltage , he knows what’s best I’m sure.
