LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Has anyone used Mullard GZ37 recti? Curious about this one.

Also, do you guys use a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) with your Lampi (and amp)?
Here, very rarely there is a power outage when power comes back within 3-5 seconds. Hasn't happened since I got the Atlantic but it sure would not be nice for the tubes and circuit board.

Got the EL51s and the adapters. Very cool tubes. I have been into tubes for 45 years, since I was a young pup and discovered a tube clock radio in my grandparent's basement. I had never heard of side contacts on tubes before. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on when I took the Teslas out of their box.

Initial impressions...very robust tube. I read where they can handle 750V comfortably. Seems like they could last almost a lifetime in the Lampi. Initial SQ is very nice. I think they'll end up better than the Psvanes (at least in my setup). The DAC looks like quite the beast now. Not as bad as it would look with Fugly Frank (which might be next) but still pretty beasty with the TAK.

Seems like the el51 family is quickly gaining the momentum in the last few weeks

Initial thoughts. Dynamic, wide soundstage. Good depth considering my crappy setup. Height so/so, a touch forward in the midrange can make vocalists a little hot sounding. I am assuming that edge will go away. This is all with the TAK rectifier.

I use Audio Note silver interconnects and I'm thinking they can be a little hot sounding with certain tube combinations. Onviously at the end of the day were talking overall synergy. A tube that doesn't sound great in my setup might be perfect for yours. Something about the Teslas seems more palpable, more real. I'm curious what they sound like with some time on them.

This where the 596 comes in. I picked up a Fivre 5R4GY inexpensively over the weekend to compare with the 596, but no postal packages to States going from Germany right now.

Gene don’t really see the link between 596 rectifier and 7n7 which is a version of 6sn7 with different socker

I don't either. Just relating what was conveyed in a Part-Time Audiophile Network 8-tube shootout article. Was Franky a common name for certain tubes in the 1930s?

I‘m a relative tube newbie and have EL51’s on the way. What is the purpose of the wire from the adapter to the top of tube? Is there a certain way to install it?

Quick question tangentially related to GA TRP.

Right now I stream windows desktop PC to Lumin T2 to Lampi. I am considering a used Antipodes which I guess would let me get rid of both the windows PC and the Lumin and got USB Out from Antipodes directly to the Lampi. How much of an upgrade in SQ would this be? My ancillary streaming equipment is good, an SOtM switch / Synergistic Atmosphere ethernet cable and Blue Jeans cable from the switch to the router. I am embarrassed at how little I know about streaming audio but I have all but ignored it until 9 months ago preferring PS Audio transport and DAC.

Thanks in advance. :)

Power I’ve assumed. Just press it on just firmly enough that it clicks in.

Thanks. Good article.

This looks awesome.

Question: Has anyone else noticed functional compatibility issues between certain rectifiers and power/input tube combinations in their TRPs?

I have two matched pairs of 1950s GEC KT-66's. When I use them with the stock Shuguang rectifier I often develop a high frequency whine (10K hz+) after the DAC is warmed up for 20-30 minutes. But when I use my Psvane ACME rectifier with the same GEC's this doesn't happen.

The whine reminds me of a preamp tube turning microphonic but clearly that's not the case here since it doesn't whine with the Psavne recti.

Thoughts? Similar experiences?

Any noise above 60 cycles is Suspect of room RFI or Emi.
while there are crystals used in the digital board and hi freq sw psu s as its highly unlikely.
consider some tubes have poor gain or odd plate moves inside. I would look at environmental pollution first.
turm off lights not just dimmers make noise. Remove any routers or WiFi repeaters. even near by cellphones or tablets. while it maybe possible it’s very unlikely to be just a tube combo. That’s my thoughts. Keep us posted as we learn from each other. Also pics help if you wish to share.

I had a different variation on the theme this morning. Before turning on the TRP this for burn in of new EL51s that came yesterday, I pulled the 596 for a new SS rectifier. After a few minutes, there was a fairly loud hum coming out of the left speaker (only). So I turned the TRP off and the noise died, with a couple of quick replays of the hum as it cooled down. Turned it on again a few minutes later and no repeat. Came back several hours later and still quiet. With old tubes, weird noises — crackle, hum — seem to happen in the process of burn in. Don’t recall noises with new production tubes.

I think you're exactly correct. I've been spending some time on this today rolling other tubes and the problem is intermittent and I believe I inappropriately drew a correlation to a tube combo. The ultrasonic goes away entirely at times and other times it slightly changes pitch. I do have many devices somewhat nearby including a router and I now believe you are spot on about environmental pollution or perhaps something on the AC line. Looks like I need to start a process of elimination one by one until I found the culprit.
