Look into getting a set of Tesla AD1n and never look back like I did. I also had distortion with the 242s, less so with the PX25s, but it was still there on some songs and you were always anticipating it to come spoil the party.
The Acme 300bs were my favorite for a while. They do everything well. Compared to Elrog 300b, EML XLS 300b, KR 300b, 242, PX25, PX4, they were resolving, very quiet, yet still delicate and nuanced. Until the AD1ns showed up. These are just as good but with more note continuity, resolution, and a unique ability to render fully formed 3d images compared to any other tube.
For context, I have a GG2, with volume control, reduced gain for the 242, and still had gain issues. A low gain preamp helped some, but it was still not attenuating enough.
My go to rectifiers are, in order of preference, the WE 274A, WE 242, and Acme 274b.

Phono plugs with a resistor in them to attenuate the level. I don't have any distortion from my 242s. But can't turn the vol low enough. I used the digital vol in Jplay, but have to up sample to 32bit for that to work. so I tried the plugs and prefer them. I am happier without the attenuation, but my missus isn't!
Unfortunately, one of my Tesla AD1ns is bad. I have only put about 10 hours on them but I noticed a big channel imbalance which swapped sides when I swapped the tubes. I tested them in my Jackson 648 tester and the results matched what I am hearing. There aren’t really settings for AD1s for the tester so I tested them a 4V 300Bs.

Lukas and I have exchanged emails. He will try to find a replacement. It seems like finding a nice, clean pair is not easy. There have been some issues with other AD1s.
Lucas is an OK seller so hopefully he will come up trumps.
It's such a simple construction internally it is hard for them to go wrong I would guess.
I sold a pair of RD27AS to someone who insisted one was faulty. I asked him to send it back and it was absolutely fine and still is. A very curious mystery. He had even taken it to his 'tube guy' to have a look at.
I have given it a few firm taps etc etc and I just cannot get it to malfunction.
Strange indeed.
Tip: make sure the pins are clean with Deoxit and swap them in their adaptors. if that doesn't work, file the tips of the pins very slightly. That sorted out a Loewe AD1 I have.

I cleaned the pins with fine sandpaper. I don't see any oxidation on the pins. I have tried 2 different adapters. Same result.

I must admit I am surprised you have had more than one issue with them. I have 7 Tesla AD1 and all are fine.

I think you need to sell a pair to fund something else.
I am a bit wary after the RD experience...
I will sell you one if you have one that works. If you give me that mA/V reading of it I can send you something close to it I suspect.

I seem to remember I posted the video and an audio file recorded on a Rowland which sounded 83,192 times better than the camera mic a while back.
I might splice that into the video.
Rowland make all sorts of studio kit.
This particular Rowland is a digital audio recorder. Had it years but it really is a high quality sound recorder.
I basically bought it so I could hear myself playing the guitar through the hi-fi.
Amazing. So you built your own speakers to hear yourself playing you. You should also put a mirror in between the panels to watch.
