My friend had the CAT JL7 with black gates here for two weeks with his Avalon compass diamond, the Allnic 300b ( which is used market 6 to 8k gbp), was better than it on every track. There wasn’t one LP the cat sounded better on. Most unemotional.

Given your focus on having enough power to properly drive the loudspeaker, how was a 300B sufficient to your ears to drive properly the 90dB sensitivity Avalon Compass Diamond with three cone drivers to control?

While the Allnic is not completely there on control, that is exactly why he keeps auditioning more powerful amps. That said, the CAT still was not good enough despite having more control, therefore we both rated it as not good enough amp for any consideration. The KR audio 180 watt VA 200 was better. The Thrax 100w hybrid will probably be better. The Allnic is still good. It is not like a 300b SET, it is a 50w push pull. I have mentioned this many times over reports.

Exactly which Allnic model are you talking about?

Is he considering the Thrax Spartacus or the Western Electric 97A? If not, why not?

I think it’s the A-6000 Ked is referring to…it’s a parallel SET I think.

This is Allnic A6000. It comes used for under 10k. It is the same one I keep on about that came to life after the Soulution preamp was plugged in.

He sold his place this year so he won’t buy anything new till he settles again, but I personally think he should try Thrax hybrid.

Can't not be push pull with one ecl 85 triode input &pentode driver. Is quad parallel 300b
the 50 watts are a little too optimistic for me, even with 300b xls tubes. I like allnic aka Silvaweld preamps and amps they have a nice sound.
you can build a phase splitter with one double triode, this was done in the past with tube oscilloscopes called "long tailed pair or schmitt"
