Modern speakers vs Vintage speakers

I don't have the space either so I built one ;-) the other will be added when the new house is ready.
To me the JBL starts to become a bit gritty and shouty below ~5K, but it works pretty well.
I do not have space to take more than Altec A7 and Lansche 4.1 on my second floor either .

Thus I will not add any more speaker for the time being.

I expect to get delivery of Cayin push pull 300b amp later this week.

It will be fun to find out how Altec A7 sound with push pull 300b amp.

As an audiophile, I tend to pursue better sound with more details, dynamics and harmonic balance.

But I can enjoy music enough through my Altec A7.;)

Jo Soomi's voice sounds clean and detailed enough with too much resonances are gone.

Please note that some ticking noise are also gone after I changed Melz 5178 to RCA vt 231 in Line Magnetic 508 amp.

.scaena_speakers.jpg :)

I still have to assemble Scaena 3.2 speaker that I bough used 20 months ago.

My Dave Dac is under repair.

If Dave is back, I will try to set up Scaena 3.2 on the thidr floor.

I may ask some gentleman living in Washington state to help me with assembly.

Then we may have chance to compare between Altec, Lansche and Scaena.

For midrange its gonna be scanspeak 4 inch , check out this FR .
Its partly due to the foam surround , midrange LS units with a rubber surround usually have a dip between 1 kz 2 khz , this one has a foam surround .
I ll be using 2 of these 4 inch units giving me sufficient midrange membrane surface with a 5, 4 gram moving mass per unit .
Fast and precise midrange ( trying to up the level a bit )

Look at the wilson XVX and wamm for example see any similarities , lol

I know, I recently attended a meeting focussing on Klangfilm (and am listening to a KL-V204a amp)
they made some sweet stuff, and the designs were very thought out!

The owner ot this music cafe collected vintage audio through 50 years period.

He is 81 years old now but still in good health.

This place is open to public with fee of 10 usd but coffee and dessert included. :)

He is living upstairs of the building.

We attended same high school but he is 20 years senior than I.

Try find something with two KL405's , the Eurodyn is the smaller brother of the family ;-)

It becomes interesting with Euronor Junior or Bionor, yet I doubt you'll come across many in Korea....Germany is a more likely place to find those.

hello, yes thats a very good paper unit ( egyptian paper fibers )

probably the 5 inch SB acoustic satori unit , .... but check out the slight dip between 1 - 2 khz , but still a very good unit .
I doubt most people would actually be able to hear it as it is a very small dip

Euronor Junior (for those who wonder, yest there is a larger Euronor)

According to them a 9 inch FR unit weighs 8,1 grams , that is indeed very light ( if its true ) usually the trade off would be reduced stiffness ,certainly with a 9 inch unit , its hard to believe that unit is able to act pistonic .
Probably natural but weak bass , no real impact
freq reponse aint that bad for a fullrange unit , except for the top end

That’s the mKII, the mkI is 7 grams... I use it in my DIY system...

Joachim Gerhard is a Mastermind build over 50 years Speaker, the best ever Audio physic medea 3Manger from 180- 20khz + 3 scan speak bass active.
Believe me, he's a master at loudspeaker crossover, he gives university lectures on sound propagation from loudspeakers

Another interesting unit is this scanspeak paper unit with an eliptical voice coil
Afaik it has not been done before , supposedly this unit has very high transient response .
Its not that flat but there is ways to that
Im actually planning to make 2 models 1 with the elipticor unit and one with the 2 4 inchers as mentioned above

I may be missing something, but I fail to see the difference between a round and an oval voicecoil in regards to transient response?

resonance, and all that...perhaps that is different.

Me too i guess the proof is in the hearing then
But people at scan speak are far from stupid off course .
But indeed it could be a marketing thing.
It looks like a well designed unit and a paper composite one
No ceramics / diamond for me:mad:

I trust what they do at Scan Speak, unless the marketing lunatics have taken over the speaker asylum.
I have used some of their chassis, and liked what they do but went another route some years ago (Full range high efficiency open baffle/front loaded horn)

I am quite fond of the designs from Axel Gersdorf of Odeon myself....he has been at it for at least 35 years.IMG_20211108_222040.jpg
