Except, it was not at all clear to me it did...in any system it was in...So, 150 grands worth of DAC sounds exceedingly well … would one not be significantly disappointed otherwise … really
You are the only person who has communicated that they even liked the sound in this room, let alone the best room at the show...not at all clear what you judge the SQ on.
You know morricab to be completely honest with you just before the show on thursday evening i lost my hearing aid ', lol
And now serious.
The ease of the presentation in general
The sound is always controlled no excessive bass issues beautiful voice reproduction.
No housing colorations .
Loudspeakers are good if they are not annoying .
R KODA sounds natural so does Wadax.
The system made me wanna stay and listen some more.
Aesthetics plays a factor too .
Audio is a luxury industry as well

Coming back from Munich and listening at all Atrium rooms the best three rooms in my subjective evaluation on Saturday/Sunday were:

So, Three fun days in Munich with friends, music, dinners ...a good time had by all.
I thought that the average level of systems was mediocre. Often not terrible and many ok but then you realize that even budget systems were adding up to around 100K and expensive ones north of 1M. Sigh...
That being said here are my top 5 rooms this year (note: I didn't make it to the Hifi Deluxe this year so no rooms from that show mentioned here.
1) Aries Cerat. No other system had the dynamics combined with quality of tone and holographic imaging and soundstaging to provide a legitimate sense of a live event. Only some Living Voice setups in the past gave a similar feel (yet delivered in a less visceral manner).
2) Cessaro. Normally I am disappointed with them but not this year. The small speaker with subs was super; fast, articulate and rich all at the same time. Not as visceral real as AC but still convincing. The larger speaker was also superb and added scale and weight but the active bass in it was still a bit obvious and while it added heft it did sound "different" that called itself out.
3) Viva. I call this system the "big easy" because it was smooth, relaxed with nice tone but had huge dynamics. It was perhaps a bit dark on some recordings but it had an awesome soundstage and piano was quite realistic.
4) Living Voice OBX-RW4 speakers with Arcadia amps (new name to me) and Monaco TT (or another one I didn't know). Incredible tone and inner detail. Total coherence between drivers and delivered amazing realism with classical music, within the limits of the 8 watts on tap from the amps. What it didn't have was the shove and whack of the big horns but if your space is limited and budget finite then it is either this or the small Cessaros mentioned above at this show.
5) TotalDac. This room was the surprise hit of the show for me. That new speaker, which is kind of pedestrian looking, sounded big, bold, resolved and with the very good TotalDac electronics tonally right. A pretty valid alternative to horns (although it did have a horn tweeter, it was otherwise conventional) due to its high sensitivity and large drivers (I applaud the use of a large surface area midrange...this helps for effortless dynamics I think). I sounded more more powerful than the big Wilsons and I think Wilson's use of relatively small midrange drivers...same goes for most other speakers where the conventional wisdom seems to be not larger than 6.5 inch drivers for the mids... this speaker uses a 12 inch driver for the mids.
Honarable mention:
Alsyvox. It was good to very good but was ultimately lacking umph and was somehow overly smooth. I think with a different amp this would have cracked the top 5
Gobel Divin Marquis, TLA amps and Kronos TT. I don't count the WADAX in this honorable mention because the TT sound was simply a lot better and only made honorable mention with that source.
Diptyque and Kora. Good speakers, ok electronics. Might have made the top 5 with really great electronics.
Cessaro and Ypsilon Phaeton amp. Stand mount Cessaro (never seen until this show) with Ypsilon Phaeton and I forget what sources. Lively, open, dynamic and fun. This speaker is one to consider on a finite budget as is the Phaeton, which is really a superb integrated.
Troy Audio Acapulco with Thrax electronics. Cool modern Altecs with 212 based SET from Thrax. Lively fun vintage sound with great dynamics but a bit colored tonally. Still cool and could live with this.
Admire Audio: Huge WE clone horn with WE clone tweeter horn on top of a bass bin. The horn and tweeter were good but integration with bass was not so good and it did sound kind of lazy as a result. Great for vocals and classical but I didn't think it could do music with rhythm and beat so well. Still, close.
Lorenzo speakers and Ypsilon and Zensati: This might have been top 5 if I hadn't heard it at jet engine levels...way to loud to judge beyond it could be a contender.

Huge dynamics, bloated images, at times impressive bass, tonality lacks subtlety but this is probably supporting electronics
It looks like Kharma put a room within a room? It appears to have the most acoustic treatments I’ve seen at a show?

Just landed this morning back in Singapore!
Of all the horns, I liked Stein most followed by Aries Cerat. The Acapella at Marriott was good too. I liked Alsyvox but they had a wimp of an amp driving it. I think it deserved better. Having said that the Alsyvox is really impressive. Clean, big sounding panel
