Or a TAD 2402, which I vaguely recall is same cabinet but different drivers. There is another pair of speakers on the outside of the TADs(?)

The difference in 2402 and 2404 is TAD 4001 Vs 4003.

The other pair on the outside might be an Altec 604

So based on your comment above you like the Voxativ Pi a little more then the TAD...
Tads are very good speakers, the best to my taste, But, I have amps, very low power ones, like 45 71a 12a 210 etc
they canot handle well the Tad, they may sound, some even Ok, but they do not shine like they do
with higher eficiency speakers , The Voxativ excel with very low power amps are incredible transparent,
and proyect a great big escenary ....as god or better than Tads, in these regard.
Of course they dont go very down in the bass, maybe to 45 Hz with dbs down, wish I find very good for a full range, way better than Lowther, they sit in Reel subwoofers but almost never use them.
Tad do everything great ....with god electronics
So, Great tools for different cases

My comment on distortion ?
to me, a slight well placed distortion can produce a great euphonic sound, very alive and emotion charged
you need very low power triodes and very high sensivity speakers, of course the triodes bring distortion but
the power is so low, the speakers produce very low distortion, kind of balance the equation
In real life distortions are every were, its natural and I think they bring the "emotions"
I now these can sound crazy... but you are invited to lisent

Hi Bonzo, no really but I will find something... will you like an specific amp ?

Now that you ask, you can do different ones with different amps :). Please use vinyl.

HI Bonzo75, I did the videos....but I can uploaded them, is there especial instruction on the site about uploading videos ?

No you have to upload them on YouTube then put the link on videos. If that is difficult you can send me the videos by WhatsApp, I will PM you my number and I can upload them

The same can be achieved with any amp speaker combo once you match the Transfer Function.

What does this teach me? This teaches me that the single most important thing in this hobby is to have a large, dedicated, custom-built room!
I might add that it seems you place a preference for spaciousness of sound. Of course, others may have other key preferences (and you likely do too).

I'm not saying that the room size and customization doesn't matter, but placement of speakers / system and sweet spot + appropriate treatment + subwoofer placement / setup (if included) + power optimization and of course the system (source, pre, amps, cables + ancillaries) all matter in our sound preferences.

Also, I'm glad you got a chance to hear such stellar systems. :)

Seven (7) favorite private rooms + systems of all time as of November 11, 2024, in no particular order:

Ali Lehman, dedicated room (not custom-built), Avantgarde Trio G3, bass-horns, REL, Berning 211 SET/VAC, EMIA TVC(?), Continuum turntable

Marty, dedicated, custom-built room, Wilson Audio Alexx V, Zanden phono, Soulution preamp, Gryphon Mephistos, Dohmann Helix

Jeroen (audioquattr), dedicated room (not custom built), Cessaro Zeta, custom subwoofers, The Grail phono, Lampizator phono, Alieno preamp, Trafomatic Elysium, VYGER

Todd (sbnx), dedicated, custom-built room, Avantgarde Trio G3 with iTron, bass-horns, Wilson Benesch Torus, CH preamp, CH DAC, Wadax streamer (added March 18, 2024)

Jacob Heilbrunn, dedicated, custom-built room, Avantgarde Trio G3 with 3 pairs of bass-horns, 4 Wilson Benesch Torus, darTZeel preamp, darTZeel 468 amplifiers, TechDAS Air Force Zero, Wilson Benesch GMT One + Graviton (added November 11, 2024)

Thanks to Angie Lisi, North American distributor of Avantgarde, I was fortunate to have the opportunity today to meet Jacob Heilbrunn and to listen to his system.

Jacob played for me two different recordings of Pictures at an Exhibition. Even without a single tube in the system I think I found Jacob's room + system to achieve the most convincing reproduction of big symphony orchestra classical music I have ever experienced.

Of course I don't have a prior reference since I never heard the system before, but in addition to a room with ideal dimensions and ideal acoustic treatment I think having a Wilson Benesch infrasonic subwoofer in each corner produces an unequaled sonic foundation and achieves the sonic sensation of expanding outward the walls of the listening room.

Jacob's room + system is a grand masterpiece.

Interesting list Ron. Four systems with horn speakers, three with large cone towers. No panels, which is interesting givien your writing about panel speakers. I also think it’s interesting that two of the horn systems are driven by fairly powerful solid state amps.

How does the large Clarisys system in Washington state compare? I had had the impression that that was one of your favorite systems anywhere.

Could you summarize the shared attributes that these seven systems have that separate them for you from the rest of the systems you have heard?
