Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I had it working once. Now it won't...I give up..

The only example I can remember is that TAS would not display an album which had Eastern European characters in the folder name. In the specific example, I believe I had the name "Jakub Hr?ša" in the folder name. I was looking for it in the view: My Music > Music Folder, and could not find it. I eventually was able to fix it by renaming the folder with "Jakub Hrusa" after which it became visible.

From what I can tell, there don't seem to be any issues with non-English characters in the filenames or tags. I have not really dug into this further. For example, would the album with the missing folder name have still been in the Albums view? I don't know - I didn't check.

Frankly, since LMS relies solely on file tags, and I have so many versions of the same albums, I have reverted to navigating TAS in the most old-school way possible: by folder layout. Interestingly, I find this rather satisfying, as I am in complete control.

Yes, with the abundance of great Czech composers and musicians it's going to be an issue in the folders for a time. These recent posts encapsulate what, for me, has been the most frustrating issue with Roon and classical. No matter if you checked all the "use folder" options in library import, it still arbitrarily used its names and composition groupings (!), all the while with Roon touting their superior object-oriented programming -- the utter nonsense that somehow technology is an end in itself. Hopefully that will all come to an end shortly.

PS - Euphony was a nice reprieve for DIYers, with no such problems and folder browsing, but now they've decided to cash in with the Roon licensing model.

Sorry John, I don't know why that's not working for you now. If something springs to mind, I will be in touch.

I never use the search function within TAS for Qobuz preferring to use the Qobuz app on the iPad. Any favourites automatically show up and I regularly use Qobuz for new artist discovery or checking recommendations from others while having a morning coffee.

My favorites will show up, new releases, etc. I could just go to the Qobuz app as @Blue58 says, but it just pisses me off along with becoming increasingly frustrated I no longer can get it to function...It is nice to have as @Steve Williams mentioned if your looking for something you don't have...

Hi John, Are you searching inside the Qobuz extension or are you trying to find Qubuz content via Local Music search?
With TAS, I can get the search function to work for my library. But I cannot get it to work in Qobuz. I did the rescan. Am I missing something here?
John, do your windows look like the ones Christian posted? Maybe you could post what you were seeing in TAS when you can’t get Qobuz to make a search.

@wil: Yes It's the exact as what Christiaan posted. It is in the Qobuz extension. It was working after the first RESCAN. Then it stopped? Been in contact with both Ed and Christiaan, not much they can do. Other functionalities on Qobuz work.

John is in a beautiful neck of the woods but with a bandwidth challenged Internet connection. Fibre is coming soon to his home, and we would expect the Streaming experience to improve

@EuroDriver:Thank you for your help Ed. YES, fiber will be a welcome addition. The only issue with that is I will be a little closer to civilization. Granted my bandwidth has limitations but I have used ROON for a few years now without issue. I cannot go back to ROON now after my ears have been exposed to TAS. As they say ignorance is bliss. As you indicated perhaps TAS is more sensitive to latency? Thanks again for your assistance...John

TAS downloads the entire file and/or queue / album depending on serial or batch play mode selected so yes it is more "sensitive" to download speeds.

@Taiko Audio: Thanks for confirming. One would think it would buffer while in search rather then not just respond? Whether its latency or download speeds. Regardless, I went back to ROON. More convenient. At least I got a good sense as to XDMS potential.

What are the dimensions of the flight case, please?
Is it necessary to use roon for streaming Qobuz?

The flight case dimensions (including the metal corner pieces):
63cm wide
60cm deep
28cm tall

And indeed, you can currently stream Qobuz via Roon and TAS, as well as via XDMS in the near future. XDMS is Taiko's fully in-house developed successor of TAS which is under development, still to be released)

I remember Ed recently said that it was his hope that the last beta TAS was done in Test Pilot. I just checked Test Flight and see it expires in 43 days..........just saying.....maybe Christmas will indeed come early this year

I think that was before we learned that a significant amount of coding needed to be redone. Please see the snippet below from Emile's August 1st update.

"Sound quality is one of the main delays of XDMS right now as some code sneaked in worsening sound quality from solidly above to significantly below TAS level. The offending code has been identified meanwhile however it means that a significant amount of coding needs to be redone.

It's not an easy world to live in right now needing to maintain a certain level of sound quality standards while facing supply chain challenges, increased workloads, and personnel shortages.

However, we are not discouraged in any way and are making daily progress, impatient, of course as we are really looking forward to having you all hear the fruits of our hard labor, but I can only answer ASAP to when new developments will be released".

That means that, at the earliest, we are talking about 1Q 2023. Wow!
