Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Steve, Yes David Hyman, the California Rhapsody owner, is visiting Brooklyn today and for the next few days. We listened to Roon only, never XDMS with the new router/DCD. It sounded amazing. Never made us think to even compare with XDMS.

Has anyone had a chance to see if the router's minimization of traffic to the NIC has an impact on local playback as well as streaming?

I think it will take anyone who also has the DC distributor several days to be able to assess this since that’s how long the burn on period is and the sound is continually changing.

True, but the roon impact was apparently immediate, so maybe local playback might also?

Roon was immediate. I must admit it was a sobering experience going back and forth between Roon and XDMS

Here are 5 songs of the many that I listened to today. if you want to hear the difference between Roon and XDMS that you hear immediately

Flight of the Cosmic Hippo -Bela Fleck

Duende -Black Light Syndrome-the deep bass between 20-33 seconds into the song is well resolved by XDMS but Roon really nails it

Sort of Revolution -Fink-Wheels Turning Beneath My Feet

Liberty- Annete Askvik

Who Killed Cock Robin -Greg Brown

I spent more time today however trying to relearn Roon and negotiate my way around. The A-B-A testing was fun. A reality check to those of you who only play Roon and are awaiting your router and DCD this will light you up.......

But at the end of the day thoughts of NSM and the songs it will play are playing with my imagination because those who have heard it have all confirmed........

I only listen to local playback. Zero streaming.

My Router is not optimal because the DAC Cable between it and the switch is not working, but even with RJ45 between Router and Switch I hear a big immediate difference- the sound is more defined, it has more body, and it's somehow more controlled yet more musical at the same time. Effortless sound.

That's with default for router and Alt1 for switch, my current favourite combination.

Having said that, I use only headphones so a lot of differences are much more obvious to me since the 'speakers' are right next to my ears.

For those who have the dc distributor: does your grounding screw screw in all the way? Mine stops halfway, and so I have no tension on my grounding cable which keeps dropping off.

Bob

I am just reading this post as I have been listening to Roon now all day but with songs that I use specifically to demo, here's my take, ...

XDMS is beautiful still but Roon sounds 3D and XDMS sounds 2D

Will print this for the record.

This also tells us how much it can be done by the Taiko Team in the future
and how new devices they will introduce will change our perspective .
All we need todo is not to fall out of the Taiko train as it moves fast
And stay on this thread / forum as long as it will exist.

Went through a lot, currently using Conrad Johnson Art88 / Art108. Who would’ve thought :) They have some very useful attributes being a combination of a really high resolution combined with an absence of listening fatigue, I can easily run meaningful comparisons for 8-12 hours straight.. The stock tubes are not great though, sorry to have to say that, but those are easy to upgrade.

Thank you Emile.
It looks you played with many different amps and DACs a lot over past years.
Are the Speakers the only thing you want to stay with ?
Are you thinking of getting something else / additional as a test speaker to be able to get a different perspective ?
At the end those are very rare speakers and quite specyfic in sound presentation.

I got my router and distributor today.
Took me an hour or so but got it working with XDMS.

wow…more of everything that should be there.

and less of everything that shouldn’t be there.

Amazing.

BUT then lost the connection. Have been trying all the different options for reconnecting and nothing works.

Now I can see the Taiko Network but can’t see the Extreme.

I even tried going straight to switch without router and still can’t see the extreme.

maybe something went wrong with the NIC card from pulling the DAC cable too often?

It makes no sense to make a router or switch in solid gold if the BPS is not. That would be way too embarrassing to explain to visitors not to mention making sleeping at night difficult.
Marty .
This is the best way to hide your wealth.
Today you can order golden switch and router. Not many will notice.
Tomorrow Emile can make a BPS for you out of solid golden billet.
To be sure no one gets it you can ask Emile to cover the golden billet with chrome .

Try using the RJ45 to go from router to switch
I had same issue with the DAC cable, except mine never worked- I think somehow the SFP+ module female side is very loose.

I'd be willing to sweep up the machining chips if I can keep them:p.
Haha, that‘s a good one!

What I meant is at current prices a golden switch is more like 800k than 80k (EUR / USD conversion aside).

So this would make a Switch/Router/DCD a 2 Million pre-front end. I‘m sure there are 10 audiophiles around the world that would go for it. ;)

Hmm yeah it’s even worse then that, it seems the online calc I used spit out the wrong numbers, the golden billet would actually weigh in at 51.36kg pre machining for only one switch or router, just tried another which says:

Euros (EUR)2,868,120

Let me quickly edit that post before someone jumps on a smoking deal :)
