Time spent blogging on WBF and ROI

ROI / Return on Investment. Concept. Substitute financial investing for posting. See Post 34.

Hope that helps.

MLO = Main Lug Only...where I come from

While I log on many times a day for spam cleaning duties, WBF is a place for quick doses of R&R. Now R&R where you actually still learn stuff…….that's hard to beat!

I like that people are allowed to mix things up but not so much that things get too ugly. I think it shows a healthy respect for the membership. I am not keen on sites where members are treated like children or conversely, sites where the men have turned into the kids from Lord of the Flies.

Best of all, I think is the one english speaking place I know of with the highest concentration of people as or more dedicated to this hobby than I.

Audio, reality versus perspective thread

Congratulations gentlemen. Well done.

The difficulty in trying to provide the ideal forum for both camps (objectivists vs subjectivists), which was our original goal when WBF was formed, is the inherent clashes between both sides as we try to eliminate any bias. This goes on everywhere and frankly it never ceases to amaze me how grown men involved in a common hobby can demonstrate such childishness in discussions with other people about their coveted gear. I get at least a half dozen complaints each day from one side or the other that are so petty that sometimes it becomes even difficult for us to moderate. Many of you need a good dose of a "grow up" pill because I find looking from outside in nothing more than a bunch of bruised egos looking for some validation and/or vindication. Over this past holiday weekend which I was enjoying with my family, I received no less than 14 reported posts by members which took time away from my family. These posts involved, cuss words, perceived threats as well as name calling and trashing members' gear. If only all of you could get a grip. This forum is just for fun guys. If any of you can provide me with a simple solution as to how to balance the scale between both sides, I am all ears. I have sent letters of warning this past weekend to members on both sides telling them I won't tolerate their crap anymore, knowing full well that the same people will again violate the TOS here at WBF. If only those of you who are doing the complaining can only see yourselves as others do, it might open your eyes.

The simple fact is that Amir and I as well as the moderators do this for free. The time I spend daily on this forum to appease those whiners here who do only that has become insufferable. If WBF does not meet your expectations, I am of the feeling now that we can't be all things to all people and if we can't meet your needs here then perhaps it is time for you to move on or better yet to start a site to your liking where only those who agree with you can play in your sand box.

Great to see how an intent at a non biased forum has resulted in the complaints by those of you who indeed have nothing but bias in your every post.

I rest my case.

So very true,

Steve, just saying this tongue in cheek, but maybe the reason lies in the name - What's best - that causes people to be so divisive? Maybe you can rename it what do yer own mate forum

Great post though

Personally I think the forum name is fine. It draws the crowd the administrative team (and hopefully the membership at large) would like to attract. There are a plethora of other forums for the others. Bonzo, this next quote by Steve is not directed at you. It is directed at those who complain the most, those who feel like they might have a stake in the forum, those who feel entitled, etc...

Instead of "What's Best", lets make it "What's Good Enough!" I'm sure that would please most of the complainers!

the name 'What's Best Forum' simply sets up an expectation to participants and leaves it to individuals for the expression of that attitude.

naysayers are attracted to the name as it offers fresh opportunities to enjoy conflict with expected over zealous (in their opinion) enthusiasts. the solid entrenchment of the naysayers in this forum is unique, which considering the expectation from the choice of Forum name, insures constant chaos and polarization....and helps with a healthy balance and keeps us grounded, if also keeping moderators busy. I'd say the forum brain trust gets what they seem to be asking for......inviting objectivists to be a significant part of a forum for those subjectively desiring What's Best.....a recipe for conflict.

as long as we don't take ourselves too seriously, it seems to work at least ok. I mostly enjoy it, and really have no desire to see it change.

AUDIO, Reality vs perception...

I am getting a bit tired of threads that are thought provoking...

What is thought provoking about your repeated berating that measurements tell the story and trumps listener preferences/perceptions ? Let's not forget about your "flawed vinyl" rants that Ralph successfully debunked. I think you enjoy controversy and stirring up the pot. Pot calling the kettle black ? I think so...

I agree. Often times, when I read, I remember the Buddhist saying, "Do not speak unless it improves upon silence."

If we never actually figure out what's best, the place will be okay. Most of us already know what's best, of course. The rub is in convincing the rest!

I suppose What's Best Forum Within Certain Constraints, as Dictated by the Smartest Among Us would be too wordy, right? :D :D :D

I guess I'm not sure who the "naysayers" are because someone arguing against one topic's premise in one place may be arguing for a different topic's premise. Because there obviously isn't a consensus "world's best" there are certainly going to be many different paths to try to get there; why is one more right than another? We don't have many (any?) low-power SET with single-driver and/or horn proponents here, but most of them clearly think their path is the path. I don't agree with that; should I never say anything about that?

+1

That raises the question why they are here.

I don't think that's what Mike is talking about. It's more about individuals who view high-end audio as complete garbage and audiophiles are bunch of deluded idiots.

oh that would be right up there with who's feeling snobby today

There's really only one person on here who truly exemplifies that lovely character misstep. He's on my IGNORE list.

"What's Best" to me is not about what gear you own or knowledge you bring to the table, but instead a premise whereby participation should be focused on sharing and learning to achieve "What's Best" for you. If it were about owning the best or most expensive or only feeling welcome because you can participate equally on an intellectual level about all things audio related, then I would have left a long time ago. I don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of being on the same footing, but I still contribute as I want to learn about good sound and great music. The vast majority of members who participate regularly here have taught me more about all things audio/music related than any other spot on the web. I have a much clearer picture of the direction I want to take this hobby to and that's an exciting prospect for me.

Just keep going the way you are. There will always be naysayers and complainers...it's part of the deal.

But I think that attitude is pretty rare here, at least compared to any of the music oriented forums I frequent, and even most of the audio oriented ones.

There is some good in all of these sites, the ability to ask questions and to learn from those that have 'been there and done that' . That pretty much works, if it doesn't like you noted, just ignore and move on.
