Wilson Alexx V vs Rockport Orion

Better how ? Spending 300K on a WA product is a way safer bet than Company X with bass ..

You should ask people who actually sell/Buy that level hifi , they can buy and sell WA all day long, on reputation , build Quality, finish , resale value, Customer service and Brand recognition ..

Prolly the same for Magico , Barely known Brand X Sounding fantastic as well , not so much ..

Comparing RH to Hirsch is like calling McDonalds, Cuisine ..

JH actually knew the science ...
I was being kind of facetious, in a way.... However , Harley does write glorious reviews for pretty much everything he reviews, much like Julian used to.... I remember when he wrote critical, comparative reviews that were very informative, but my guess he has changed along with most of the hi -end industry.

McDonalds is a cuisine, of the fast food variety :) And, I d put modern day Harley's and of his ilk's reviewers style in the same category, albeit glorified.... Harry Pearson he ain't, not even close to Dr Robert Greene, or Fremer. IMHO of course

It is very hard for "newer" brands to get traction in the press. Its hard even for those who have been around a while but are smaller companies that do not have huge advertising and promotional budgets dont get much mention . Thats the facts.
Ive lived it and OLiver Gobel makes some of the worlds best speakers.

C’mon Elliot ,

It’s 1000X easier today than it was during the HP days, when they were all the gate keepers , today you have the internet, multiple shows and Andromeda to spread the word ..!

Ron and WBF is the icing, Gobel has the whole Matrix to spread his word , if you cant spread the word today, he would have been nothing more than an asterisk back then ..

Thanks for your feedback, I was genuinely curious what you'd chose.

IME the Magico M series are incredibly revealing speakers. Haven't gotten a chance to head to Dallas to hear the M9s just yet but I heard smaller models. I'm sure they're amazing.

The Rockport Lyra is an incredibly transparent speaker. If AP built a larger version (maybe 4 - way) he'd have a contender for true world - class, effortless and a symphony level - capable speaker. I guess that'd be the Arrakis 2.0.

The Vivid Giyas are excellent, but the Spirit takes it to another level. I presumed my Spirits would have more bass and impact versus the G2 which they do, but they are considerably more revealing and realistic - sounding. I'd love to hear the Moya M1.

Haven't heard the newer AV, never liked the older models but I hear it's greatly improved.

I'd like to hear your XPE sometime. I bet it's great. Thanks again.

I am amused to see that my somewhat cryptic reply to JiminGa has generated such a rather surprising number of comments and speculations... .

I agree with you and thanks for the post. The Rockport Lyra is simply not large enough to be a contender for re-creating effortless live performance sound pressure levels. The XVX is. The XVX is designed for stereo Subsonics and massive amplification of a couple thousand watts per channel both subs and speakers. Then you can achieve a FR down to 10 Hz at concert levels. I have about 130K invested in my meager Thor subwoofer system. It takes at least a 260K Wilson subwoofer system to achieve all that an XVX is capable of. A subwoofer properly integrated into a system enhances the midrange and treble . The XVX is competitive and in the same class of speaker as an M9 because while the M9 can certainly employ outboard stereo subs, they are not really designed to as the XVX is. It already employs a massive ultra engineered analog outboard 100 pound electronic crossover/power-supply together with its requirement of a massive mono power amplifier solely for its dual 15" subwoofers. In other words the M9 comes with it's own in built-in subwoofer system, making an outboard subwoofer much less of a requirement for ultimate performance. The XVX is really a production ,mass produced, WAMM. You can't purchase a WAMM without its dual Master Chronosonic subwoofers. Personally I would prefer the XVX to the WAMM because of the Quadramag midrange. The WAMM has the older but still very excellent midrange. The retail price of an M9 is 750K. The retail of a fully realized XVX system is about 630K.

I agree. I have heard 3 Rockport speakers...Merak Sheritan IIs, Altair 2 and Rockport Arrakis 2 (active version driven by 2 sets of VTL Siegfried monos). I could absolutely believe the Lyra is amazing...and definitely agree a larger version of the Lyra would be sensational.

The Arrakis was effectively 2 Altairs stacked (inverted) on top of each other. I imagine something similar with Lyra would be pretty amazing.
