Luckily the Atmaspheres didn't blow the Definitions 2 in 2008 at my demo. Otherwise I'd have had to get out the fire extinguisher rather than my chequebook.
Hi SETDrugs,
Congrats on finding your bliss! I am not too familiar with Thomas Mayer gear. I have only read about it on this site, in Bonzo's blog thread, but I have not experienced it.
How did you end up hearing about it and selecting it? What else did you hear and how does it compare? Have you heard any Audion models, by any chance?
Thanks
P.S. Great to hear that you are all set for a long time.
plenty of Atmas have blown up, too
Actually that's not true. Why would you say that?[/QUOT
uh, why would I lie? you can talk to Albert Porter for one and find out for yourself
I have no need to ask someone else to make good on your claims. I'm not spreading hearsay. If you're going to diss a brand or manufacturer, the responsibility is yours to support your claim. If you cannot or have no direct experience then this is wrong. It is too easy to casually damage the reputation of a brand and it devalues comments on this forum.
Since you asked, Def4s with Audiopax Maggiore M100s, Zesto Leto Preamp and mainly analog front end. Like Marc I run a Trans-fi Salvation-Terminator. Airtight Supreme and Allnic H7000 Phono. I listen to music robustly, and like the dynamics, macro and micro. But I don't really care to get into jargon and descriptive phrases.Caesar,
Perfectly stated. I could not agree with you more about Zu and this hobby in general.
Just curious for myself and I'm sure others here, can you describe a little about your system. What Zu speaker are you running? What about the amp and preamp? Analog or digital front end? Thanks
Lol Setdrugs... one dude selling speakers and changing his opinion is hardly news in our hobby.. that said I have heard plenty of Zus and while I appreciate where they are coming from would not be so converted just because this is subjective and system to system, room to room there is so much going on with whether setups work and that there's a million reasons why we change what we have but little actually is guaranteed ultimately in what people will love and live with. The Harbeth 40.2s with SET are probably closer in spirit to your Zus than the pap horns and so they scratch my box itch (hmmm not sure about that last sentence but I digress). The truth is individual and in the eating and not the cooking. There's a guy in US who is selling a 5 month old mint PureAudioProject (PAP) Trio 15 Horns because he just switched over to Zu Definition. Gave up after just 5 months. Just thought I'd post this news here since its interesting that some are very infatuated with open baffles and say they're the best.
I guess Sean must be doing something right at Zu after all. This just further proves that if you get a Zu speaker home and carefully set it up, more likely than not you'll be blown away. Like I said, dollar for dollar for the attributes that are most important to the music lovers, they have very little competition.

Might be hard after a life luxuriating in Vyger and ASAnd one who would be even bigger news if he bought a tt.
Well Tao, I do fancy running a 4.0 multichannel system...The race is on and the challenge is SET... Marc you get up to two sets of speakers (Zu plus one) and I’ll get down to two...

The pap horns do things that I would never trade off... not for a million Zus but that means nothing beyond a personal preference. Truthfully I’m never sure why anyone wants everyone else to be convinced of what they have or are sold on. Respectfully the only really important thing is that you’re happy with what you have.
