I have to say that if SQ is your main focus, Roon wouldn’t be my music player of choice. Simply too great a SQ sacrifice in order to get the better UI
It's very unfortunate that this is true. I turned off Roon this week and have been somewhat blown away with how much the sound quality improved. The level improvement as one audiophiles easily fork over dollars to achieve. I really do miss Roon though - but not the UI. Roon Radio is my favorite part of Roon as it has introduced me to so much unfamiliar music.

As far as the UI, iPeng is the control app I'm using presently. It's pretty much the bare minimum as far as browsing a music library. It's a pretty huge step down from Roon as you'd expect, but a good chuck of that gap could be made up if developer resources were applied to the task. I'm very eager to see what Innuos delivers as part of innuOS 2.0. Nuno said it has been under development for two years. I hope a lot of listening tests went into it along with some great developer innovation. Fingers crossed.

Kenny,

Did you try the Innuos' experimental mode? It uses the Squeezelite as the player, while keeping Roon as the UI, so it sounds pretty much like iPeng/Squeezelite directly.

Yes I had been using that mode pretty much exclusively since I got a Zenith Mk2 Std back in early 2019. My system has evolved quite a bit over the last couple years, so on a few occasions I re-evaluated Roon Core vs Roon Experimental vs no Roon. The gap between Roon Experimental and Roon Core widened to the point where I could never go back to Core. No Roon was better yet, but not enough to dump Roon.

Fast forward to the present where I now have a Zenith Mk3 that’s seem improvements upstream and downstream, and the gap between No Roon and Roon Experimental has widened so much I don’t see how I could go back to Roon Experimental.

You mentioned that Experimental mode sounds pretty much like iPeng/Squeezelite, but have you compared them recently? If you wander over to the Extreme thread, you will find a few folks claiming that Roon took a turn for the worse several updates ago. That might explain why the gap seemed wider to me this time.

Kenny,

No, not recently. In the store, we use network 99% of the time, so these are non-issues. But we do try, and also get feedback from clients, and they've been unanimously happy with Experimental mode, specially since Innuos improved stability a few firmwares ago.

My clients are either in the "Roon or nothing" camp, or the "anything but Roon" camp. So there's not much arguing to be made :)

I've heard the 2.0 firmware (+the control app) is in the final stages. This should help folks in the 2nd camp (above), and maybe even convert some in the first camp...

InnuOS v1.4.9 has now been available since 09/Jun/2021. It will be required before going to InnuOS 2.0. Speaking of InnuOS 2.0, here is the latest blog post from Nuno on it’s release, via his Weekly Update (25/06/21):

“Hi everyone,

I’m happy to report we are proceeding as planned and we are keeping firm the date of 30th June to launch innuOS 2.0 for our Statement users. Based on the feedback of the rollout, we should make the ZENith and ZEN Mk3 update available one week later assuming all goes well with the initial rollout. We’re very excited here to enable our users to finally start enjoying innuOS 2.0!

If you don’t have a Statement but want to see innuOS 2.0 in action with a live demo then please join us on Thursday, July 1st at 4:00pm (EST) where we will be streaming live with our friends from Qobuz . If this is not enough of an incentive already, we also plan to give away a ZENmini Mk3 1TB Music Server to a lucky winner, complete with a full one-year subscription to Qobuz Studio courtesy of Qobuz. More information will follow on our Facebook page!”

i can try, but these are very early days and so i need to listen more.

From a software pov:
1. For me personally its not a game changer - slicker ui et all but the previous experience worked fine for me as well
2. Yeah i suppose with qobuz playlists things are better and you can save stuff.

Sonically:
1. I feel compared to 1.4.9 the noise floor is lower - so this might mean more laid back, less edgy on the high frequencies
2. bass is better - fuller, tighter
3. clarity / resolution is slightly clearer

The diff in my opinion is slight but cumulatively can be felt. I think the fuse will make a bigger diff sonically.

How long does the 1.49 download take to install? I am going on almost 4 hours….how long is the 2.0 update install to follow? Or am I doing something wrong?
thanks, happy holiday, looking forward to hear 2.0

Just downloaded 2.0….silly question…does the Statement must be connected to Dac via USB to use new app? I have dCS vivaldi to network bridge via dual aes, Statement did not recognize my Dac..
Do I need to give up my beloved aes connection? What might I loose/ gain by switching?
thanks

If you run the Statement as a roon core i think you can connect via ethernet, if not usb.

Sorry, not sure if you addressed question…I currently use Statement as Roon core, connected to dCS network bridge and dual aes to my Dac. When I attempted to use new Innuos app instead of Roon, my Statement did not ‘see’ my Dac, then needed to re-install Statement as Roon core to play music. Will new app only work via usb out to Dac?

How are you connecting the dac to the statement
The Statement has 2 outputs
Reclocked ethernet to streamer
Or
USB

Hi @Echos,

From your comments in Post #410, can you verify whether your previous "software user" baseline before going to InnuOS v2.x.x was either:

a. v1.4.9 + Roon
b. v1.4.9 + iPeng

I am currently a v1.4.9 + iPeng user, and wanted to get fuller context on your Sonic SQ uplift observations. Thank you!

Echo: I use Ethernet from Statement into network Bridge, then dual aes to Dac.
Does new app require usb to interface with Dac?

Have I misunderstood that iPeng will no longer work when InnuOS 2.0 is installed? I have been using InnuOS 2.0 since its release and was just about to delete iPeng from my iPad when I thought to try it just to confirm it no longer worked. I was surprised to find that it still controlled music playing from my Statement just as it did before the download.

Hi @SR-1

I am not sure about your User Experience in the v2.0 world, but below is a small excerpt of what Nuno has posted about the subject:

I am certainly no expert on v2.0 (or other), but I hope that helps address your question. If I missed the point of your question, please pardon me.
