Does the 3012R outperform the simplicity II?

No. Not from what I have heard so far. Both are on the same table now, so in the future I can compare the same cart.
Cheers

In my system, other arms can sound better with Atlas.

Did you try with the Lyra?

SAT and AS Tang?

I have a suspicion J Carr never designed his Lyra's to go onto the somewhat flimsy SME headshell , let alone the 3012-R

The SAT didn't work well on the AS when I heard it with GFS (sounded wrong) and iirc tang preferred it on SAT on techdas. It sounded great on Gian's SAEC so Tang later bought that arm and think it sounded good on it. Jcarr used it with fr64 till he moved to SAT

Yea, Jonathon designs his carts for the headshell to dissipate most of the energy from the cartridge - flimsy headshell/tonearms need not apply.
no such thing as best, as synergy plays such an important part - even if one does not know why the synergy is even there :p
dynavector XV-1s sounded really good when I had the 3012-R on the TW - no idea why.
