Analog vs Lampizator

Wrong guy to ask in the context of this conversation , not a classical listener . Where as Acrack , Abill and Bonzo most definetly are .

Not really, he was specifically asked to try the tubes with classical music to confirm and he did it.That is how he was able to say 242 was nigh unbeatable on Classical. He lacks Px25 expense though.

I suspect that the PX25 will be GG king and 242 will be Lite7/B7 King. the Kron recti is already a winner killer SQ and the highest vacuum seal on the market by a wide margin. Cant beat hat with a bat!

Plugged them in and........everything seems to be good. No distortion. Playing:

Wigmore-Recital-Schubert-Mendelssohn-Brahms
Sounding a little edgy with less panache in contrast to my Elrog 300b/Tak 274 but definitely has more air. This is a very well recorded piano/cello.

ELP "From the Beginning" guitar and vocals are very crisp and palatable yet still very listenable. Have about an hour on them. Plus, I have my AC on which is not meant to be silent.

What did you have before

One of the pieces we compared between KR 300b and 242 was Danse Macabre. When things got complex, the 242 was resolving much better, and resolution in the bass was also much cleaner. Dynamic. And more resolution. Also, each note was more gripping. Please let us know if you see any of these things.
Also, Keep us posted on the tonality of strings and vocals, especially if the steeliness goes off after burn in. Thanks.

Back from quick dinner out. My system sounds so different than with the previous 300b. If I had to make a decision right now, the Elrog's would be my choice. Much more tonal density and involvement. I feel much less submerged, like I want to move my chair closer to the front wall. I know things will change though, so I really don't even think these things are relevant, although....I don't remember feeling this way when I switched my EmL 300 to Elrog's nor from the EmL 5u to Tak 274. I instantly knew I was keeping the later.

Interesting findings. When I installed the Elrog 300b valves in my se GG dac - like you - I immediately recognized this is a change for the better. And of course things got even better when these tubes were played in. I ordered the Lampi se KR recti to replace the EL recti and I more or less expect the same experience.

So maybe the choice between 242 and (really good) 300b valves is indeed a matter of taste and system energy (is it not always in the end)?

Hi Rudolph,

You are right of course and in alignment with my comments a few pages back - i.e. blanket tube statements applying to all systems is tricky. That being said, the 242s were indeed night and day in my system. Anyway - let us see what the Kr PX25 now brings as I do have high hopes :)

This implies that the Elrog is much superior to the KR 300b. I am also interested in knowing how much of this is based on gain rather than tube characteristic.

I can understand a good 300b having great tonal density. But are your dynamics, bass and resolution much with the 242 as compared to the 300, or is this a case caused by gain match/mismatch, so that it worked in Bill's system and my B7 system
