Audiogon's new face

Audiogon is going to be "Audiogone" if they don't fix their mess. Now would be the time for someone else who was less greedy than Audiogon and had some slick software to come in and kick their behind and take over. I think they are very vulnerable right now.

the site is up Bruce. Not sure what you saw

The site may still be on life-support--kinda-- but the heart, soul and
brains are no longer there

Arnie has left the building. The site is there, kinda, but it's wide-open to all manner of nefarious ****. I saw thi scoming last year, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

The business model was fine. The guys who decided to CHANGE the business model are the problem.

A'gon used to be one of the most-secure websites on earth. They had experienced admins who recognized threats and eliminated them before they were an issue.

Now? Fuhgeddaboutit.

This is sad news for the industry. Many people finance their new equipment purchases with Agon sales.

We are building out an equipment directory for currently available products but could refocus it and include second hand gear. It's a three month build and test the way it is so we will have to ponder this opportunity.

I have heard estimates that Agon does $300,000 per month in revenue, but it's all just dandy speculation from MBAs with no hard data points.

And the problem is none of the other sites get a whole lot of traffic. It's impossible when you get 10 responses at A'gon, not to get any from the other one or two ads on other sites such as stereolist.com.

Don't get me wrong... I loved & have used agon for years, but, I for one would love to see other sites give them some competition. Their greed & pompous attitude has rubbed many of us wrong for years.

I just checked out stereolist.com. I hope it gains some momentum.

They need to do some SERIOUS marketing on all of the audio websites. No hits on Wilson, Krell, Magnepan, Audio Research, VPI ?

I would use them in a heartbeat. They should offer some huge, huge, huge discounts or free for 6 months and they could build a huge base from Almostgone. They just need to advertise aggressively.

Audiogon was much more than a second hand marketing forum. Their systems and discussion forums were great (although they loosed something when Steve left with his great system to found a new site :( ) .

For long years these forums supplied a friendly environment for enjoyable talk, and I appreciated it a lot. As far as I know, there is no other forum with similar characteristics with such a large and enthusiastic membership. Let us hope that the fools that are managing it now leave or change their minds before irrecoverable damage is caused to its credibility.

Their CREDIBILITY ( in my eyes ) has been gone for quite sometime now!

At least they finally changed the equipment featured on the landing page! Again, I find the search function an unmitigated disaster. It's near impossible for example, to search the software section. Where one would once get tons of listings, now it's only a half dozen at best. You can't tell me the software has gone away!

could it be that people have just stopped placing ads?

I think you're partially right but then ever so often am able to find some more listings that didn't for some reason come up in my search. But yes, there's still a whole lot less listings it seems.

It still sucks , they should have just " saved" the old system and reroute in case the new one didnt work properly .
I cant get/or change into my system page, it says nothing saved i cant go to my favorite threads .....
Cant they get some decent computernerds from siliconevalley to get the thing fixed , its hilarious , i wonder if the people who are working on the Gone are skilled workers.

Well it doesnt matter next time i will upload my system on the gone and on this site it has to change anyway, it will then belong in All Out Assault , cause i am working on a big project now .

Not making any excuses for the poor site but appears that their traffic is back to "normal."

We actually have no proof it ever went down. The drop was probably due to them not mapping the new address, app.audiogon.com

If that's the case Peter, would it take that long for the remapping to occur?

It's possible. Depends how often their web crawlers run. The abrupt drop followed by the abrupt rise to the same level gives it away

OK, I guess that assumed in part the drop started when people couldn't log in and just didn't go back.
