Bose acquired McIntosh and Sonus Faber

Why does everyone think Bose bought Mac to tear it down? Bose brought Mac so they have a luxury brand to pimp audio OEM packages to Luxury car makers that no longer saw Bose brand fitting their needs. There are two iconic names in audio that most nonaudiophile customers would recognize, and they are under the same roof now.

Sonus Faber is just along for the ride. Bose will no doubt use them in engineering the new rumored Bose 901, yes its rumored to be making a comeback. I imagine it with Sonus Faber drivers and Mac amplification inside." Powered by McIntosh".

“Over the last six decades we’ve delivered the best premium audio experiences possible,” said Bose CEO Lila Snyder. “Now, with McIntosh Group in our portfolio, we can unlock even more ways to bring music to life in the home, on-the-go and in the car.”

McIntosh Group CEO Daniel Pidgeon echoed those sentiments: “Gaining access to [Bose’s] expertise as a pioneer in automotive audio will also help us accelerate our presence and enable us to deliver solutions that are commensurate with our reputation and performance standards.”

McIntosh’s loyal fans will likely want to know if the brand will continue to create its iconic speakers, amps, and turntables now that they’re owned by a company best known for making active noise-canceling headphones. According to Bose, that’s the plan.

It says it will continue to work in its traditional areas of headphones, speakers, soundbars, car audio, noise cancellation, hearing augmentation, and immersive audio, while McIntosh and Sonus faber will maintain their focus on amplifiers, loudspeakers, turntables, and other high-end products.

When is Sonus Faber going to tell Bose to put a cork in it?

;)

It is interesting that Sonus Faber over the last year has announced a number of partnerships with major luxury auto makers for bespoke stereo systems for their cars. Was this directional expansion done with foreknowledge of the Bose buy out, or was its accomplishment what garnered Bose's attention.

I certainly hope that this does not affect the quality (both in terms of appearance and sound) of the SF speakers.

More interesting is the CNBC article. $5,000 is where luxury audio begins.

Great. None of my individual digital components (see my signature) qualify.

Chris Connaker asked me why I thought this was a good move. My answer is on Audiophile Style.

yes sir, TPG alum. Was there in my much younger days. A fan of Bondo and Jim.

Small world. A long time ago, I was on a McKinsey energy team that did some work for TPG.

A beautiful cathedral with 2 amazing pipe organs,.....

A 20Hz sound wave is 56.5ft. 16 Hz is where the organ in Cologne bottoms out. May I suggest irrespective of the system you might have an issue with the size of your listening room?
Well my room is not the size of the cathedral either so...

I've not done any scientific measurements or calculations for any cathedral and have no plans of doing so in the future. Tech stuff like that I leave up to acoustic/sound architects & engineers.

Happy Listening :)

Great article about the possibilities and why.

Can McIntosh Help Bose’s Automotive Electronics Biz Hit the Accelerator?

It really appears that Bose is hoping the McIntosh can help its automotive electronics business hit the accelerator. As one source in a position to know told me, “Harman is kicking [Bose’s] ass in automotive electronics.”

In fact, Harman’s successful automotive infotainment systems business is the reason that Samsung acquired the company back in 2016 for $8 billion. The company offers a portfolio of high profile brands to a variety of car manufacturers. This appears to be an effort by Bose to be more competitive by expanding its brand offerings to manufacturers.
