I regret that I made a comment that has resulted in a predictable and non productive exchange;
What kind of regret is this when you immediately turn it into the other guy's fault?

That aside, what is predictable is you feeling insecure about your audio purchases the moment there is any discussion of audio science that might call their value into questioning. I get it. It is not a happy place to be. But it is the nature of the beast. Some of us are inquisitive and want to know how, why or if a product works. If it bothers you then stay out of the thread. Please don't interrupt the flow and derail what we were accomplishing.

If you don't own the product or knowledge of audio engineering to comment on the same, please stay out of the thread.
Way to spin things around Amir. Way to go man. Please allow me to bounce back your comment. Have YOU actually heard this unit and can you prove that you have specific knowledge of audio engineering to comment on the same?

If you haven't, then please follow your own advice. Otherwise, as you mentioned, we don't need idle commentary intended to create friction and bickering. ;)

Just sayin' bro'. I personally see a double standard.

Tom

The first files I listened to (the LP) were a poor quality source. Difficult to hear subtleties in that I'm afraid.

It wasn't difficult at all.

If you say so. Personally I didnt think the differences were significant as I stated. The other reason I dont trust others subjective opinions is how much people tend to exagerate and the hyperbole they attach to describe their aural experience.

honestly I could give a rip about your inquisitiveness. it's noise I don't need. I simply have no interest in it. a little of it is ok if/when it does not dampen the mood. a matter of tolerant balance. but when it becomes dominant or prevalent it's a bad thing for us listeners. sure; there are a few that like the conflict. but for most it's a turn off.

I'm about sharing the ideas of experiences. when your minions and you rough up a thread then the degree of enthusiasm is diminished and the experiences get trivialized. and I'd rather clean the rocks from my tire treads. it has more value to me.

please get over yourself and your sense of importance to the hobby. no one cares that I relate to. at all.

OTOH you have plenty of followers that get off on it. and now that is where WBF is going. too bad.

Perfectly stated

Picked up the latest issue of HiFi News, towards the rear section is an ad by Entreq. The ad reads like a white a paper, literally as the whole page is white with plain text on it. It purposes to explain what the grounding boxes are supposed to do, and how they do it. Well as much as they can say without giving away their trade secrets. Looks like they were trying to their answer critiques.

If I see the Entreq at AXPONA 2016 in Chicago, I might pop in to here a demo. Just to see what the fuss is about, without having to put up anything more than my time at the show. Personally however I am not a fan of this side of the hobby, expensive cables, isolation devices, etc... all hold little interest to me.

I would rather put my money towards, better speakers, more room acoustic treatments, maybe something like a MiniDSP/DEQX, a Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, & Auro3D A/V pre-pro as mine is turning more and more into a legacy product. Not to mention upgrading my amp to something more aesthetic looking than my dull NAD218 THX.

I agree with Titianium ..I spend my money on tweaks that can easily be heard , room , DRC , bass management etc..
BUT I am still tolerant of those that tweak much deeper than I

And I am of the opinion that if one believes something makes a difference , it DOES to the person concerned

My one pal believes his gold plated plugs sound warmer than his rhodium plated ones..I dont argue the fact or go on a witchhunt trying to prove otherwise even if I think its foo..

I dont feel the need to crusade and save "poor guilible audiophiles" from themselves.. not my money..it's theirs to do with what they like and who am I to rain on their parade.

There is nothing honest about that. You show incredible angst in your posts when we have these discussions. You even come to the measurement forum to state the same. It is a life lesson to learn that people will discus what they discuss. You need to be choosy about what you read rather than reading it and then complaining. We are not here to field your emotions that way. We want to discuss a product and set of technologies to see if we can gain insight, have better ability to pick between them prior to purchase, know the good from bad, and the effective from not. You want to buy first and figure out second, do it. No reason to hang out in a forum.

Actually, it was "ugly bags of mostly water".

I have always referred to humans as "bags of chips" or maybe to some other country they are crisps. This is because of what happens to the typical MotoGP rider in leathers when they have a very big stack. Lots of broken bones on the inside but they look perfectly fine and healthy underneath all of those tight leathers.

I wish I could still buy that magazine in my country. I can only get HiFi World these days, but both Paul Miller and Noel Keywood are two people I respect enormously. I hang off their opinions and reviews because they principally review subjectively, (which as Sound Of Tao has pointed out, is ultimately the only way we are able to actually listen to music), open-mindedly, measure and try to interweave the subjective and measurement findings where possible and appropriate. I'd be very interested to see if either of these magazines review Entreq gear. I have not seen it mentioned or advertised in HiFi World yet.

How do you know its an exception? How many people have the capability to measure the noise in their system to make an accurate judgement?

1. Yes. A great many (and very high quality) products are double insulated these days. I dont think its restrictive at all, but I'm sure you will find products that arent.
2. Tag AV32rDP pre/processor and 100x5R power amp ( separate system at the moment with Totem Arro speakers)
3. Sorry, I havent felt the need to follow the circuit to find this info, but posibly the internal supplies 0v is connected to signal shield on the SE connections.
4. Audiolab MDAC Multiple PCS (2x Sony, 1 Acer, 1 Toshiba all work the same) one psu indicated class 2, the others were measure and their 0V had no connection to mains earth.
5. Not tried. I will try and find time to do so.

Thank you. I thought it was a fully balanced system also?
Interested in the results of point 5 when you get a chance

Went to search on google for other places to buy this thing and landed on one of our own threads from a year ago! http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showthread.php?16735-Entreq-USB-Cable-Exposed

Would folks find value in me testing the starter unit, minimus or whatever it is called?

There are a few other threads here with Entreq in the title - http://www.whatsbestforum.com/search.php?searchid=3217362

Here's the headquarters.

Testing? Value? Let's see your test plan first.

I write so little these days that I no longer have any piece of paper. So searching around, I found that I had some underwear I could use for the purpose and that is where the plan is written. I have been wearing it for a few days though and it has a race track on it. Do you still want to see it?

Thanks Spaz... not sure about the first two parts but in agreement on the third... definitely a happy little meat sack.

In grace we trust.

Hey Be... I do humour, just not a fan of sarcasm and just putting a smiley face after a snipey little retort doesn't necessarily make something funny... usually just more sad. I am happy you don't need to listen to the Entreq to know everything about it, I was just suggesting that it would add to the level of the credibility in what you continually had to say about it. The word expert does derive from the Latin 'to have experienced or tried' so I do believe to be a complete expert we need to move past the theoretical and into the experiential.

I will admit my evil intent and I wanted to become a Be-liever and try and trick you into some potential point of conflicted discovery one way or another, maybe even undo your unflinching confidence in the notion that all to be known about this product was known since we as a species tend to feel we know everything about everything when it comes to well, er, everything... and that there is still hopefully some room in this spoilt human pursuit of ours for some things as yet still to be known. But that isn't to Be... no biggy... it's just one less experience in a life only a little less lived. If I was humourous would push two keys and Insert hilarious funny face here...

well all three seem to be rather evident to this horse... if fact you managed to cram it all in, in this post. insert winky eye , if i was looking for exclusivity and wanting to maintain a sense of secret understanding...

Amir, starting out with scud marks all over your test plan could lead many of us to the conclusion that a little smear campaign is being planned here... definitely Freud would have a field day.

Spaz - will attempt to be a good meat sack as always
Cheers

Do you still want to see it?

I have several copies here already.

But as for the Entreq... I'd like to see someone formulate a theory of operation (if there is one beyond "bara lyssna").

You are considering being a volunteer to that effort. You're capable of devising some test scenarios, and have some suitable measuring devices. I'll read what you write. On screen, that is.

Of course, you'd need to create a new thread in the Measurements sub-forum for your tests.

---

I'm not immune to tweaking power, I did add a small used Equitech, which, as I interpret it, floats the power to the rack around a new "Earth" reference voltage at the centertap of the isolating transformer. I can't perform in/out of circuit measurements due to a lack of precision test gear here, but it did have some useful results, as in silencing all the other transformers in the rack (at least one was sometimes annoyingly noisy), it has a nice in/out voltage display, and certainly didn't degrade the audio.

I do have an analog 'scope - all I see is a little airborne RF hash at the amplifier outputs - which, as I remember when I looked, was the same whether the equipment was running and wide open (playing silence) or powered off, in the millivolt megahertz range, so, my analysis is it's just the antenna factor at play and doesn't contribute anything to the misoperation of the equipment.

I have a bunch of ferrite clamps (liberated from work long ago) with which I have liberally festooned some of the analog signal and power cables, just in case.

Also, contact enhancement - DeOxit Gold - whose description of its mechanism is similar to that of Stabilant-22, which, if required for certain signal connectors in helicopter wiring, must have some benefit in maintaining/enhancing connectivity, and be rated as "good stuff".

But the Entreq - especially the units that just hang off your gear with no outlet, I dunno, I see expensive voodoo and can't figure out what it would be doing electrically.

Amir, this is a popular product, and we are popular people. Anything popular is worth exploring further, so yes we're ear to explore, learn and enjoy our short séjour on this beautiful blue planet of ours (to whoever bought and owns the land). You are a popular person because you are totally unbiased, neutral, and like all popular people thirsty for life and all the benefits inside of it.

Of course there is value in you testing the starter unit, it goes without you asking anyone. But, because you asked it means that encouragement is a legitimate incentive towards real value...so my answer is a definitive YES. ...Not just for me, but for all of us who are seeking the best for the best exchange rate. ...Way of speech to simply say that we all want to reach the heavens, the audio nirvana bliss, and become immortal. So might as well start to learn right here. :b

* The last line from Ray's above post...I too feel similar. ...It's just a natural feeling...like a natural woman feeling.
