H J s system !

Picked up my repaired studer B 62 VU .
And finalized my new speaker design before i left to the US for work .

For this one i aim for a +- 1.5 db Fr due to the foam mid range surround use
Off course paper and 7 inch this time.
Scan speak sliced paper and a ScanSpeak ellipticor version .
This allows for a lower X over point .
Again angled internal walls to reduce the back wave .
Series X over filter
11 inch Eton woofer side mounted almost on midrange height .
Hpl off course and a closed system.
Bass extension will be in the low 20 s
92 db eff.

@andromedaaudio
Does it make sense to offer both the classical 3-way and these?
What are the pros and cons of both?

I will have 3 models in the end :

Next year , 2025 they go up for reviewing / advertising

The 3 way floor stander with front firing 8 inch woofer .( model 1 )
The 3 way with side firing 11 inch woofer ( see above post ,Model 2 )
A passive sub with 12 inch woofer is on the way . 92 db eff.

( And the XPE model on request )

A high mounted side firing woofer gives a different dispersion / radiation pattern , i like it a bit more i think .
There are no cons of either model , the higher you go up in the range the more bass output you will get .
Model 2 has more internal volume combined with a 11 inch woofer and 7 inch mid ( high freq units are the same )
A speaker which goes both lower and has more membrane surface will be able to scale up more /produce a bigger sound

Model 1 can be combined with 1 sub
Model 2 needs 2.

Larger woofers but same mid/twt ?

No , model 1 6,5 inch
Model 2 , 7 inch ( 2 versions ) all paper membranes for the most natural mid range reproduction , Foam surrounds this time
Scan speak ellipticors which are pricey and have a real nice elliptical voice coil / magnet system

Ellipticor.

But to be honest despite the big price tag i have not heard much audible advantages in speakers that used them , i heard a few in munich .
But who knows well see, price / complexity doesn t guarantee good natural sound .
The other model 2 / 11 inch woofer speakers will be delivered end of december and i will compare with the standard ferrite magnet / sliced paper cone mid unit .
Woofers are like usual Nomex / kevlar , but .....side mounted

The midrange dome is the milestone of the series, but scanspeak has made it so expensive that hardly anyone uses it. Probably one of the best midrange driver ever built in my opinion.

P.S 15" bass is really good too

Built Q OK ,.... but sound ?
I have heard plenty of extraordinary built audio products which sounded nothing special/ unnatural / not well balanced soundwise .
Its about circuits and final execution

I heard UBIQ audio , Living voice. with this midrange
Honestly i thought the cheaper LV with regular units sounded much better in Munich , i heard a couple more / i forgot the brands

Troels Gravesen exsample

I like the normal paper mids too. Here is the guy from Poland who built this speaker. It will probably be available as a kit soon. I think 30k€, this driver costs 20k€ a pair. The best sound on YouTube with headphones I have ever heard look his vids please.

Nice speaker design with the big side firing woofers , sounds nice .

But if you want to do something commercial the competition is enourmous .

My speaker designs at a dealer can be both under 10 K / pair for consumers incl taxes ( in high gloss finish )
Model 1 8,5 K , model 2 9,5 K. ( with regular mid )

Well, each of his speakers consists of a 4x 15"WE 38 woofer two per side (6.5k), 2x9" midwoofer (1.2k), 2xdome tweeter front, one in the back(1.8k). I don't think that's expensive if he later offers everything for 30k€ a pair as a kit with xover.

His website, i'm waiting for price

Price/ complexity doesn t automatically result in better SQ .
I learned my lesson the hard way .
I did spend 4 K for a pair of diamond tweeters at one time

sorry for saying this, I would never think of using a diamond tweeter or ceramic driver, I find them horrible. I'm old school.
Maybe, but if a speaker sounds so good on a video recorded on a cell phone, I don't have to be a genius to know that it sounds much better in real life. I'm excited to see if the kit comes out, I'd love to have it. Definitely more than some high-priced junk where the drivers cost 1/20 of what the speakers cost.
