More than 15,000 scientists from 184 countries issue 'warning to humanity'

It's not my problem to care about the well being of violent criminals. They should all be eliminated. I'm not talking about the obvious ones such as terrorists. I'm talking about the ones you see on the local news every night who are committing violent crimes over and over and over again. It's common sense that they should forfeit their time on Earth. Think of each of these criminals as an ICE and doing nothing productive other than adding to the world's overpopulation and pollution.

Common sense, huh? Let me ask you again: Who are you to determine which life is precious and which is not? God?

It's funny; yesterday in the Tesla cybertruck thread it started to deviate slightly from the topic.
I searched for a thread that was more suited for the subject members were passionate discussing about. I landed right here thinking it's as good as any other similar threads discussing climate changes and all things related.

We sure are a passionate bunch when it comes to everything in life...audio systems, music, films, documentaries, books, wines, food, energy, science, technology, iPads, iPhones, cars, mafia, EV, ICE, AC/DC, climate, turntables, records, fuses, gold and diamonds in the rough. :)

Unfortunately I am not the one. That would be awesome if I was. It's a common sense idea, as I mentioned. Lots of people have no common sense so I don't expect you to understand the point I was making.

I understand your point perfectly well, all too well, in fact. One thing is for sure: I would never want you anywhere near a position of power, this would be far too dangerous.

Hilarious. Watching the local news now... Criminal with extensive violent history baited some cops. Killed one and severely injured the other. Accused of at least one other murder. What a precious polluter! Since he's only 28 we will now pay millions to keep him alive and well for the duration. Imagine taking that money and using it for something worthwhile, like the environment.

I think we simply can't know what effects increased CO2 levels and raising temps will have with any reasonable degree of certainty due to the great non linearity of natural systems and their complex interdependence. Considering our ignorance as a species, it seems wise to err on the side of caution and reduce CO2 emissions, stop throwing plastic in the rivers and seas, reduce population, etc... these should be priorities even if there is no climate emergency.

This sounds reasonable. How do you propose the world achieves population reduction? Who does it, and how? Gov't fiat, incentives? One country telling another country? Greta telling parents of two or more children, "How Dare You?"

It seems that many developed countries are encouraging population growth to support their aging populations.

Historically, when populations eliminate poverty and provide education the population levels off and may even decrease on it's own.

I don't think a penalty for having kids is a good idea, China's one child policy seems to have caused a lot of suffering. OTOH, we don't need to encourage it via tax breaks.

China and Russia are both encouraging population growth, it's unfortunate the world has to deal with many of the people who are heads of state these days.

My friend, specialist in history has made Two thesis, one was on the climate in south of France between 900/ 1000 to 1990 .Climate around 1000 was clearly warmer than now.
Well so that is just one ‘specialist’ in history versus the call of some 15000 scientists. Am thinking I’d maybe have thought the science could be looking at the far greater picture and much more likely to be using far greater resources and some actual peer reviewed and validated evidence as opposed to one perhaps as yet unreferenced history specialist.

All the specialist in history in Europ agree with the warm period around 900 / 1300
Just going back to the small trends of just some 800,000 years of ice core evidence. Anomalies and inaccuracies are possible but I’d put more measure in the results of the Vostok core findings as these are in a totally different kind of timeframe. Anyway, all good your backing the outrageous minority over the weight of over 95% of all peer reviewed science in this area. Winter ain’t coming, just the big floods and the big drought and the heat and the wildfires.

Current visibility where I live was down to about 150 metres again today due to months of record bushfire activity. My country has been on fire in totally new levels this year and last. A work colleague died in a recent bushfire up north and my sister in law lost their entire farm the other week up on our mid coast due to what our bureau of meteorology has identified as climate change induced increased extreme fire days. Nobody here who is actually living this stuff is listening to the kind of anti-science denial that is an excuse for people just to keep doing nothing and just keep carbon emissions up and drive these life threatening extreme weather patterns into getting worse over time.

Today in the UK general election, the most pro carbon neutral party (Lib Dems) were accosted by XR on the street and told they were as part of the problem as anyone else, despite having possibly the most radical decarbonisation prospectus of any Western political party.

The XR protestors glued themselves to the Lib Dems battle bus, and insisted on Carbon Zero in a decade max.

Anyone think this tactic will ever get the majority on side?

Can someone tell me how to address a political issue without politics? :)

If you view it as a political issue than it should not be discussed on wBF. Very simple.

WBF is a refuge from politics.
