Gryphon Antileon Revelation. Not sure about details but I think: 165W/channel. Up from 150. 20 amp iec vs 15 amp. Now uses transistors from the Apex. Price maybe $45,500. Could all be wrong but we’ll know for sure at Munich.
I get it. Now I'll upgrade to Revelation and whatever will replace Pandora when it comes out.I had an EVO and Pandora. I thought I was set for life.
No, I was in freefall at the time. My first Gryphon purchase was a Pandora with the Legato Phono stage inside it. I just wanted those two things. Easy buy. Then my Audio Guru said, well, you will need a proper Amplifier and he suggested the Antileon Evo. Seemed right. The Antileon arrived months before the the Pandora. When I finally put the two together I added the Kalliope DAC as it looked the same as the Pandora. I also added a Grimm MU1. I was set for life, no more audio purchases necessary. Then the Ethos caught my attention. (If you own a lot of CD's, buy an Ethos!!!!!)I get it. Now I'll upgrade to Revelation and whatever will replace Pandora when it comes out.
My only question is if I should wait for Mephisto replacement. I should think that will happen in the next year or so. Definitely waiting for Pandora replacement. Hopefully a one box CommanderNo, I was in freefall at the time. My first Gryphon purchase was a Pandora with the Legato Phono stage inside it. I just wanted those two things. Easy buy. Now I am really done. No more gear ever. Heaven had been achieved. A smart person would have stopped there.
Ten days after the Commander and Apex were announced, I ordered both. That ten day wait put me out six months for them to arrive. But they did. They seem nice.
No doubt whatsoever the Apex is a fine unit. Over the years I have made painstaking "adjustments" to my system. From outlets, AC Power, cables, isolation, network, you name it and I have addressed it. This was all done around the Mephisto Stereo and as of late the Solution 727. The latter will undoubtedly let you know if something is amiss. I realize we are not dividing the atom here but I thought the safe bet was the Mephisto Solo's.For what it's worth, the Apex Stereo seems useful enough.
The Mephisto is ruthlessly honest. It will let you know if something is amiss. Throw in the Solution 727, you better have things right or that could be a train wreck! When it's right and everything else is aligned its hard to beat. I know a few guys who have gone to Robert Koda and other highly regarded amplification and still talk fondly of the Mephisto. I don't care when it was made, in the right system its a difficult amp to beat...The Pandora is no spring chicken either...
Thank You! Picking your brain was also very helpful Lloyd. I find making decisions such as these a little easier breaking down the different options. This obsession can pull you in a number of directions. Adding 2 major pieces at the same time Olympus and Gryphon Mono's wasn't as big of an obstacle (for lack of a better word) as I thought. I didn't plan on this to happen, it just did! Pretty seamless integration. Distinguishing between what the Olympus is doing Vs the Mono's perhaps is a little difficult to digest. However it sounds so good I'm only thinking about the music...Great to finally see this in the public domain...congratulations again! That is great news and as someone who was proud to won Gryphon amps for over 12 years consecutively...Antileon, Colosseum and then Mephisto (all stereos), I know something of the tremendous sound you must have now. I have always heard (always) that the Gryphon Monos are shockingly good, particularly shocking when one considers that the incredibly powerful stereos are already dual mono inside...in some cases all the way mono to even having dual power inlets, 1 for each channel.
And I am also the one who has gone to Robert Koda Preamp and Monos, who still speaks incredibly highly of the Gryphon sound.
I also have heard remarkably good things (also from Marty but also from several others) about the 727...quite a combination you have!
You had multiple great options...it was hard to miss in any of your scenarios! That said, I do think your liking the Mephisto and then going Mephisto monos could well stand the test of time.Thank You! Picking your brain was also very helpful Lloyd.
