Sorry Johan, Alrainbiw is just wrong about line source dispersion…
If you say so, I let it be. I have Martin Logans, and I have not treated my ceiling, but I have a thick carpet cowering most of my wooden floor. Then I have ofcourse a bunch of different diffusors and absorbers attacking different frequences… but ceiling no.

Ron however has a very large room and a high ceiling in the bigger part of his room. To experiment with ceiling treatment isn’t a bad idea. If SMT (from Sweden ofcourse, hehe) were to take care of Ron’s room, they would most certain treat the ceiling as well as the other walls and floor/wall corners. Planar, linesource or dynamic speakers, no difference. Just saying.

But much depends of taste in sound on the personal level. You definitely don’t want to have a dead studio sound in a nice listen room such as Ron’s.

This is partially a fair criticism. But, to be accurate, my philosophy has always been that I prefer lower power to higher power, except when high power is truly necessary, and in that situation (I am thinking Magnepan here), the higher power the better.
Of all the amps you’re considering I would also include this amp as being a front runner for your Pendragons. Aesthetically it would be a match made in heaven.

Where did you hear the Absolare PSET and on what speakers?
Kerem at Munich; Rockport Altair II (I think) and Phil Ressler; Zu Definitions 6

I do not think even Bonzo claims videos are absolute. They convey certain aspects of the sound and can be supplemented by written descriptions. No one is claiming they are absolute, and I even think no one is implying that.

there is always the possibility that you will withdraw from the record some thing as did Ron yesterday. We all change our minds. You once declared you would not comment on videos. But now you do. That is great and most welcome.

I think videos will continue to be a part of high end dialogue. I appreciate Ron taking the time to make the videos and sharing them with us on his forum.

Where are you?

it is more than two weeks that you are not active ?!

The EL34 and 6550 aren’t interchangeable. Sockets are wired differently.

Thanks, you are right, it depends on the PCB design. The 6550 pin 1 is not connected and on the EL34 it is connected to grid3. As grid 3 is internally connected to to cathode in 6550's, the change depends on pin 1 of the socket being grounded or connected to the cathode, something that happens in many PCB designs - the old thumb rule that no pin should be floating in a PCB. Just checked my old cj and it has a strap between pin 1 and 8 of the socket.

Perhaps it is why some amplifiers can use EL34 or any 6550 family tube, others not. The value of grid resistor can also be critical in such replacements.

I was a CJ fan and owner for over 35 years. I no longer count myself as a fan. I won’t bore you with the story, but when I listen to my ARC and/or Burmester based systems, I wonder what I ever saw in CJ. YMMV

Are we supposed to have better ears today than 35 years ago? ;) IMO such choice is extremely dependent on the system being used.

Is that using a transistor boost instead of output transformer ? Otherwise how to get that power?
I heard a tiny tube amp OTL at axpona it said tube output but did have power transistors as well did sound great would love to se a schematic of them

Sorry Johan, Alrainbiw is just wrong about line source dispersion…
Im not saying I am wrong or right but while dispersion is lower on sides , top and bottom
The room still is active Ron has a line source little
Or no wings to delay the sound emitting both ways
mine delay a bit due to the wings. Either way sound travels in both directions more then top or sides from the actual drivers
but once it leaves the drivers in it’s journey to out ears it’s going every where.
I use side absorbing materials at a certain reflection point be tween me and the speakers
no one I know uses anything on sides of speakers
So aside of limited facts of dispersion what’s your point lol.

I’ll try to put more effort in going forward
I do have a disability in writing ?? or composing over all.
Spelling is one of them even Siri can’t help at times
Grammar well even when I try it’s a mess
Verbilly I’m fine and can use words I can’t begin to spell.
Yet I have many degrees and many licenses.
You are not the first nor most likely the last to ask and truthfully i am glad to read your comment.
I’ve been asked in the past is English my first language hahaha.
Now the above is a term paper post can’t get better and I’ll bet still messed up anyway.

Flow and continuity
lol yea
Flow to be continuous and not random wow soo not me.
Continuity well if I can’t flow well how the hell can I do this.
lol great post but jokingly aside I must drive those who try to understand me nuts
I’ll apologize in advance now.
christough on here phrase for me

Let me translate alrainbow lol.
He was not the first nor last to say that.
Many times even google can’t get me

No worries man - I’m not from the US, but I can read you good, so keep it up:D! Some even say Einstein was too smart to tie his own shoelaces, MOOHAHAHA!

I did a whole thread here explaining the circuit design of the Alieno 250 OTL.
