Shunyata Triton/ Typhon

Steve, where on the website does he say the alpha digital outperforms the anaconda for digital sources? I wasn't able to find it. I have an Anaconda on my Playback Designs and wouldn't be all that happy that I flushed $1600 for nothing.

You quoted it in post 96 above

You can get $2000 back for your anaconda, and buy an digital alpha for $1000. You will be $1000 cash flow positive and have a better cable. What is not to like?

Frank, I read that post. I am sure that cable is killer good on digital. But so is your (and my anaconda zitron's). I have this funny feeling the alpha digital does some great things...but on your playback and my dCS it may not be a slam dunk...I'll ask my dealer to try one...might be a few weeks to report back...

The XiTron Alpha Digital Power Cord was designed specifically to deal with the type of noise pollution that exits from the power supplies of digital type components and or switching type power supplies. Many people have now tried the cable and the reports back to us are very impressive. The XiTron circuit was originally designed to reduce dielectric absorption but we have expanded the circuits purpose and complexity to include noise reduction in the case of the power cable. If you go to our website, we have a before and after screen capture from a power analyzer showing the dramatic noise reduction capabilities of the cable.

The cable does not fit into the hierarchy of our existing cable lines because it is a special purpose cable that was designed to solve a specific problem. And it fulfills that purpose quite well. If the specific component that you use the cable on fits the profile of a digital type device that outputs significant noise onto the power line - then, yes, the Alpha Digital PC will outperform one of our other cables - even the Anaconda. It works good on DACs, transports, clocks, USB converters, processors, scalars, computers, disc arrays, monitors etc. It will not outperform an Anaconda or Python on an analog component like an amplifier or preamplifier.

The Alpha Digital PC costs: US$995 (prices vary in other countries)
It is available in US, EU and Aussie terminations.

This is quoted from a thread Caelin just started

most interesting...I am looking forward to your thoughts, Steve. I think many of us are. But I speak especially for myself, as I have enjoyed the recent path of eliminating noise/vibration/grunge from my system using originally Transp Ref Power Conditioner and Nordost QX4, then over the last few months the HRS M3 shelves with footers/dampers, Stillpoints Ultra 5s and most recently the Tripoint Troy SE.

I really like all of my existing PCs, but I do know a lot starts with the source.

Would you fellas mind moving your questions and comments about Alpha Digital to its own thread since this is off topic to the Typhon and Triton.

The Alpha Digital power cord has shipped world-wide now for about 2 months. A number of our dealers and distributors have reported back with a wide variety of comparative comments. My own comparisons find similar results. The Alpha Digital is clearly better than the Cobra and Python models on digital components--blacker background, greater clarity and more subtle detail retrieval. Regarding the Anaconda comparison, there are differences favoring the Alpha Digital in terms of overall background silence and ease- an effortless smoothness, while the Anaconda has better overall macro-dynamics and fundamentals/weight characteristics--predictably. On my Aero LaFontaine, I'm happy with either but left the Anaconda in place. In a different system, maybe one where there is an edge or hardness apparent, I can see someone preferring the Alpha Digital. I believe that it will come down to system dependent variables or sound preference between these two cords on a given digital component, while there are more clear advantages apparent comparing the Alpha to the Python.

I hope this helps.

Be very curious as to what you think. Zanden makes their own cables for their digital (Both Power cables and 'umbilical cables' that run between the power supply and the main units)...they use a lot of shielding they say which does a lot to lower noise floor. I use the Zanden umbilicals but Purist Audio Dominus/Ann Contego power cables. They have an upgraded umbilical...perhaps worth considering trying the upgraded umbilicals and the Zanden power cables...or the Shunyata power cable...if you find there is a big difference with the Shunyata vs your Nordost Valhalla.

Going off topic...might should start another thread if we want to discuss this...but a few years ago Albert Porter had Purist make new umbilicals for his Aesthetix Io and Callisto. As a experiment. I got to hear the before and after...it was a wow moment. So at least for Aesthetix...umbilicals are a big deal...

Thanks!!! I will keep that in mind!!

I swapped the umbilicals for the full sized Anacondas on the 2 TYPHONS yesterday and I'm sitting here in amazement! It is noticeably better again. I just can't believe what adding the TYPHONS to the amps has produced.

Great news fellow lunatic

I've been told that my pair of Typhons/Anaconda umbilical ships next week

I now have ~200 hours on the Triton/Typhon and I am trying to get my thoughts wrapped around these 2 units and cables. I have been in this hobby for close to 50 years and can recall only a handful of what I would call "game changers" in my system. I can say without reservation this is one of those few times and can't wait to plug those Typhons into the AC duplex of each corresponding amp

That's a powerful endorsement. Waiting to hear the final report.

You're in for a treat. At least for what I'm listening to right now, the TYPHONS on the amps have made a bigger difference than the Trition/Typhon addition on the front end. Although I did have a pretty good conditioner in there prior to the Shunyata pair. Hell, the umbilicals only have a day on them. It's actually going to get better!

The real test comes next week when my Pass Xs300s are back along with the new Pass Xs pre amp. Really looking forward to these additions.

You better not be BS'ing me. I am about to write a hefty check for 2 x Typhon + 1 x Triton with corresponding umbilicals, and three digital alpha's thrown in for good measure, strictly based on the hype on this forum....

That's some very expensive hype.

Hope it come with return privileges.

Trust me, he won't be returning anything

I don't trust anyone's hype.

Maybe next month another cable/PLC manufacturer will join and it will become the new flavor of the month.

PS- Why is Shunyata the only cable company with a What's Best In Manufacturers forum?

What about:

Audience
Audioquest
Cardas
JPS Labs
Kimber Kable
MIT
Nordost
Synergistic Research
Transparent

Just to name a few audiophile cable companies that have been in business for a long time.
