SOtM sNH-10G Network Switches x2 : The NEW KING of USB/Network Gadget Setup

When a word clock is connected to the SNH-10G, does the switch auto-sense the external clock, or is there a configurable parameter, to switch the clock from internal to external? I don't see a physical slider on the device to switch from internal to external.

You need to turn on the external clock signal and then turn on the switch. It detects the outside clock signal in a few seconds. If you look at the switch from the top, in between the upper grill spaces, you will notice two green leds instead of one. The second led flashing means the switch detected the exrernal clock, it flashes a couple times while it syncs with the clock signal and then it is ready.

Thank you, this is very helpful.

You have to switch the unit off and a few seconds later switch on again. If locked, you will see two lit green leds side by side thru the casing slits when viewed directly from on top. One will be flashing.

Best wishes

Hello Patrice,

Since I had a SOtM sNH-10G with only the sCLK-EX clock installed, I messaged SOtM (may.park@sotm-audio.com) to get the upgrade firmware and also the BNC clock internal cable + external BNC connector. The firmware is custom made, so you need to provide them the serial number printed on the sCLK-EX board in order for them to generate the file (I have 2 switches and the firmware files are different).

If I remember correctly, the price for the firmware was 100 Euro and they provided all the documentation + firmware file (+ the file for the second switch, which had everything installed from factory). As I needed also the hardware, there was also a description where to put everything.

Hope it helps,
Valentin

Bonjour Patrice,

Valentin

Great!
I will contact them.
Just one last question, do you need a special cable to flash the firmware?
Good evening

Glad you asked because I completely forgot. You'll need a USB A male to MX1.25 4-pin (if I'm not mistaking ... it's a small connector inside)
If unsure, they can provide you with one, I think I paid 10 euro for it but at least I got the right cable from the start.

The software to write the firmware is freeware: Atmel Flip ... it was throwing some errors when connecting at the beginning but then I found this clip:

And I remembered now, the 2nd SOtM switch was bought from the local dealer including the sCLK-EX board, BNC cable and connector installed ... BUT the firmware that was supposed to unlock external 10MHz clock input was not installed. So SOtM provided for free that file.

Cheers!

PS. If using an external clock for your SOtM switch(es) it's worth investing in some audiophile fuses. I have a Mutec REF10 and I was skeptical about this upgrade but I was amazed on the improvement brought by 2pcs SR Purple (this device uses 2 fuses in the IEC inlet). I'm waiting now for some Albedo Reference mono crystal silver BNC cables (Sommer Cable are now installed) to have the full pre-streamer part complete.

Agree with this 100%, I to was amazed at the benefit and how it increased all the great attributes of the Mutec REf10. Just a pain you need two fuses. :)

BTW: I am running two SOtM switches both clocked with the SOtM dCBL-BNC75 cable. Amazing cable.

Has anyone tried experimenting with different linear power supplies to power these switches and if so, did you find any material improvements in sonics?

I've been looking at something like Sbooster BOTW. I have 4 of these switches, so I'm looking at more moderately priced options.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, @Blake !

I have 2x SOtM switches. At the beginning I used 2x Sbooster on them, the sound was pretty ok. Then I tried 2x iFi Elite 12V 4A and the sound speed improved so I sold the Sbooster. Two weeks ago I've installed a Plixir 12V 6A on my best switch (SE with eABS and upgraded capacitor) and the sound became thicker, more meat, more bass.

Thanks for the report @valicu2000!

Last night, I ordered the Plixir Statement BDC, dual rail/output, the version designed for powering switches. My Sotm switches are the standard 9v.

9V ...I'm guessing you don't have the sCLK-EX clock board installed, right?
Some people reported that 12V powered SOtM switches sound better, but this is possible only if you have the clock board installed ... there's a jumper that can be set on 12V

Correct, I don't have the clock board installed in any of my Sotm switches.

I can add that adding a Plixir power supply does wonders for the SOtM switches. I can also confirm that going to 12v does add a bit more openness to the sound.
