Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I think this has brought a lot of confusion. What Emile explained is that the OS update is about 75% of the total improvement, the other 25% is the USB Driver update.

Will do cat6man. I’ll get a chance to try both later this week and will report back. Thanks
cat6man,

I was planning to try to get some sleep tonight after getting very little of it yesterday from playing with the new update (thank you Emile!), but curiosity got the best of me!

Listened with USB3/Roon earlier (with a totaldac d1-12 mk3 DAC) and just now switched to USB1/Roon. By the way, thank you Emile for making the switch a snap!

At first blush, I found the USB3 excelled at all the audiophile attributes by far in a very exciting way than before the update.

But USB1 brought a deeper, more effortless level of engagement. It presented the music in such a natural and relaxed manner that the room disappeared completely. It allowed me to be transported and immersed in the live recording venue without any effort.

Upon further reflection, this is simply an unprecedented musical experience for me in my room. Artifacts/noise are now at such a low floor that complete immersion is achievable. There are no distractions to tear you away from complete engagement. Just amazing! Hope it’s not a dream. ;)

Perhaps I was more disposed to be engaged more easily later in the evening, or the power was cleaner at the later hour. I don’t know. But I will continue to listen to both driver options over the week to see if the differences become better demarcated or start converging.

Either way, it’s musical heaven. Just different flavors of audio nirvana. Thank you Emile and Team!!

And how many % is the shift from fibre to copper? (Genuine qn, I have not been following that closely to the thread)...

The new remote app will have an option to switch DAC profiles, AND an update button so you can all just hit the button in stead of having to grant us teamviewer access.

My update queue is now empty! If I missed anybody, please resend your request to contact@taikoaudio.com.

This is very impressive!

So - Taiko Audio now can offer the ultimate music server along with 67 (if I counted correctly) DAC-specific configurations giving you the best of the best following Taiko's optimize the whole strategy.

When XDMS arrives the end user experience will be such that you only need to select your DAC from a drop-down list and that is that. Those of us here (myself included) that enjoy it can continue to relish in some of the technicalities "under the hood of the Extreme" as we continue the discovery towards SQ nirvana together with Taiko Audio Team.

End game is to enjoy the music!

...I have been on a high-fiber network diet since a few weeks after receiving my Extreme (named Gina, BTW), so almost a year.

Switching to copper feels a bit like removing a knee brace after surgery. The doc sez it's fine, but it feels a little scary.

It sounds so good I don't want to break the magic. I have Cat6 and a custom, cryo-ed unshielded cable already run, so I'll trust Doc Taiko and report back...although I think most of you abandoned fiber long ago. Update sounds very, very groovy, BTW.

Those are pretty neutral, if you want to play around with others be my guest, but I do recommend to at least listen to a standard unshielded cable as a reference.
Yes, a noticeable improvement, I changed to copper after followed Emile advise. I have been using fiber with outstanding results before moved yesterday with this update. It looks like the Ethernet card on the Extreme is a better match to this OS implementation.

Emile,
with MSB Pro USB and TAS only, do you still recommend USB3 profile?
thank you.

So, are you-all talking about both copper IN to Switch and OUT to Extreme?

I know for awhile the consensus was a mix of fiber and copper were ideal.

I have been using fiber (70' run) from router to Switch, and then copper from Switch to Extreme -- with very good results. Like Marcus Barkus, I'm a little reluctant to touch anything as it sounds so good now!

I’d expect USB4 to do best with TAS.
Aaaaahhhhhhh!!! Now we are “talking“. You’ re absolutely right, like always. Digging into the recording like never before.
Thank You.

Good morning all

I hope everyone is bright eyed and bushy tailed since you all received the new update. Frankly I haven't been able to sleep as it is almost as if I am listening to a completely new sound system. and I didn't get out of my seat until 0300 this morning.I lost complete track of time. The only track I was interested in last night was always playing the "next track"

So the pieces of the Taiko puzzle are falling into place. Next up will hopefully be XDMS and life will be even better

Does your DAC accept a copper Ethernet input?

The new remote app will have an option to switch DAC profiles, AND an update button so you can all just hit the button in stead of having to grant us teamviewer access.

Emile, thank you for the OS/Driver reinstall and update. Much appreciated!

When do you expect the Remote App to launch? Will it be Windows specific? Thanks.

In my case is copper to the Extreme from a Melco S100 router (Using a Sablon Ethernet cable), the rest is a mixed of fiber and copper
