Zero Distortion: Tango Time

Dear Tang,

No Beethoven for you? Even a classical music Philistine like me likes Beethoven 5 and 9 and maybe Egmont Overture.

Dear Ron,

You will possibly like the piano concerto number one?

As for Tang Beethoven is only surpassed by Bach. This may take time but will likely become the norm?

Kindest regards,G.

Completely agree.

3 is also good. And listen to second movement of 7. Then piano concerto 3, 5. Violin concerto. Loads of sonatas and quartets.

Listen to Franz konwitschny interpretations of the symphonies on YouTube. Unfortunately LP quality not that good

Indeed. My experience with the UK pressings of RCA SD hits...they don't sound quite as good (noticeably) as their American "Shaded Dog" counterparts.

This could vary LP to LP

I find what is even more rare is a 6 eye that doesn’t have the brutal forward sound. But in general a lot of 50’s stuff can be unpredictable. Shaded dog is a nice indicater but there are some duds, no doubt.

PC No. 4 is easily my favorite - today's choice is Glenn Gould. With upheavel in Europe as his backdrop B confronts the traditional until-now master-slave relation of soloist and conductor/orchestra in the concerto form and turns it on its heels.

Maybe it's my luck but Columbia jazz seems to have better recordings than Columbia classical.

They do! There are the good Columbias, SAX series, but I’ve literally never seen one in person at any record store, thrift store, etc. SXL is rare, like a unicorn, but I have seen at least one. SAX? Nothing, ever.

Dear Tima,

Four is the masterpiece without peer. That said 1 through 5 by Szell bring the trifecta(performance, recording, mastering)together like no other.

Kindest regards,G.

I would have recommended a few heard at the general but with each recommendation LP price goes up. I hope he will still permit me to listen at his after I start criticizing his LPs publicly

A private forum area would be nice for discussing pressings... other than that, I PM people. I don't like the trolls trying to gouge us. We have enough obsessive issues with spending $ on audio to begin with.

There are too many lurkers who make money off our chat. I can't blame them.

Yeah, right
I'm pretty sure the General is devastated when the prices go through the Roof ;)

It's like London property prices. We need a repricing so that the younger generation can get in, otherwise they will be left out forever. Let's say I will be doing a good deed

Are you flattering yourself again? :p
Price does not go up because of comments in this forum.

Kind regards,
Tang

With these LPs every purchase changes price including yours. Next time just post video without showing LP and do not answer questions or PM

Should I consider myself as an humanitarian because I do not participate in the expensive vinyl race, buying instead digital recordings made by the younger generation? ;)
