I thought of making a collage of the last 2 steps (based on imagination) on how a Koetsu 'innard' is installed to its body; using Ncolble's nude Koetsu photo as a start, into a blank stone body and how it appears as the final product. The final step after checking the alignment and testing would be the installation of the gold plate cover.

I think that the glue or gluing technique being used to assemble the "case" to the structure is very critical. Can I ask what glue you are considering?

I would think that something of the epoxy variety would be way too permanent for such a piece, likely destroying the body to remove it. The body lives a very comfortable life with little stresses other than not falling off. The consideration would be flexible or not. Does it resonate separate from the frame, or more solid where the resonance transfers into the frame.

Those were the questions I asked myself as well. I spoke to the store and sent them a picture of the wooden box and they confirmed that there wasn't one in the boxes of belongings. So the poor thing may be lost forever .

My main reason for questioning the model was the silver wiring and silver coils. I thought that only the platinum and urushi models came silver. But the lack of a P in the serial number and holes not being threaded made me think it might not be.

It's one of those few pieces that I regret selling because mine was with a triplanar arm. romantic character but with an amazing dynamic I still remember when I mounted the Ortofon Anna on it... pure shivers of peace, congratulations again for your great experience with woodwinds

From gem sites in the internet. I'm not really an expert of stones, btw. The 2 stones, Onyx and Blue Lace, are from different families.

Then you have Stockholms Granit, one of the hardest rock on earth… It has a beautiful sound if you know how to polish it to the right frequence… MOOHAHAHA!!!

I was told by a Japanese audiophile that the son of Yoshiaki Sugano has passed away recently.

His son was responsible for all the production of Koetsu cartridge. With his passing, there is no one to make the cartridge and production has stopped, properly forever.

Hope this information is not correct, as will be a huge loss to the audio world.

Yes, TLi. Sadly, Fumihiko Sugano passed away a few weeks ago. It was posted on

My main point is the complete shut down of Koetsu, ie no more new production of Koetsu.

That point can only be confirmed by dealers, who are still waiting for news about it.

Going back to an earlier post, I was in contact with the Singapore Koetsu distributor as we’ll be there just before Xmas.
unfortunately, he will be away, and whilst he offered to sell me a stone bodied model (have yet to make my mind up) I wasn’t given the opportunity to see the cartridge(s) in person prior to purchasing. I suggested meeting a representative of his but that seems to have been ignored.

photos are fine but I’d still want to physically see me choice before purchasing.
The problem is he’s out of the Country when we are there which is why I was asking for him to leave them with a friend/representative of whomever he chooses to allow the purchase in person. This seems to have hit a brick wall and presume the sale is not going to happen.

I didn’t get that impression, but possibly right. He’s not replied further so I’ll be purchasing elsewhere now.
