MM7's are here

EYE & EAR Candy to the highest degree!

Mike, Your last video you posted was no slouch either, waiting for your newest one as well.

Not to diminish other systems on these threads, but Mike's system has to be near the top in my book!!!!!!!!

I am honored and humbled the speakers in my basement at some point resided in that same sacred space.....

Just a tad overboard don't ya think?

I am not sure if this has already been posted here, but in case it has I suppose a good thing is worth repeating: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKbIE_-Ke8M

Absolutely sensational Mike and really inspiring. BTW, what music are you playing here?

sorry Roysen, missed this post earlier. thanks for the nice comments.

the music is the Quartetto Italiano playing Beethoven's Late String Quartets. i can't remember which Lp but the whole set is fabulous....particularly played on the NVS-Telos-Anna. along with the Mozart set from the same group, likely my most frequently played records. they make me feel very alive and happy.

when you visit we can enjoy them together.:)

added note; i assumed the video you were speaking about was this one; http://vimeo.com/59854430 not the one you referenced. the music in that other video was an original live recording done by Rich Brown (U47) in Portland, Oregon.

and thanks guys for the nice comments, sorry i missed them earlier.

i do intend to get back to making the video i started out intending to make for Peter for his series. the one referenced above was 'practice'. i got distracted by music and the system and i seem to have lost myself into it.

oh darn.;)

At 0.42...looks like Kevin Spacey...?

that clueless looking guy at 0.42 was me. and watching the video i realized........turns out i got my video's confused.

i thought the video Roysen was referring to was this one....

i did back in February.

the one Roysen refers to above was done by Rich Brown (U47) back in November. we were playing an original 2xdsd live recording Rich made in Portland, Oregon.

sorry for the confusion.

Richard Wagner is on the record saying the first movement of the opus 131 quartet is the saddest emotion ever expressed in music. Beethoven wrote this music while 100% deaf and living in complete spiritual isolation (and probably despair). To me, no other music expresses this emotion more acutely than late Beethoven chamber music and sonatas - in particular the adagios (e.g. adagio hammerklavier sonata opus 106, arrietta opus 111).

Very nice Mike.

Can I ask what chair you use? I notice the Zero Gravity has been replaced.

hi McIntosh,

first, i apologize for not noticing your post until just now. i mostly just check on the 'What's New' button so sometimes i miss stuff.

i do swap two chairs in and out depending. nothing is as comfortable as my zero-gravity chair, and when i'm alone it's where my butt is. when i have people over or when i'm taking pictures i do use the Cassina K10 Dodo chair due to it's lower profile being more group friendly. it's still a very confortable and beautiful chair for all sized people. the head rest and foot rest both pivot out of the way.

the people in the back row get much better sound and view with the K10 Dodo.

btw; since you live close, feel free to PM me and we can figure out a time for you to visit for a listen.

Thanks Mike. I have one of the relax the back as well, but sometimes I can get a little sleepy in it :)

Were able to find/order the Dodo locally?

I'd love to find a time to come over and hear your system!

your location says "Not far from MikeL"... you must be even closer to me! I have an open invitation to listen to some great tunes as well.

How about some more YouTube videos of Mike's system as well as others?? Yes, I know that a YouTube video is not the ultimate litmus test of an audio system, but then again, after watching all of the clever AVShowrooms videos done by Peter Breuninger, some of the rooms sound fantastic, even on YT videos (while some are okay to fun).....

Cheers,

STUNNING, even from a camcorder's microphone and through my basic headphones on my laptop.....I heard EXACTLY why Phillips shared that lofty pedestal along with London/Decca back in my pre-CD/vinyl frenzied days....sadly, back in those days of vinyl, I was still a hard core trumpet jock and despised chamber music unless it had brass.....

Now at nearly 51, I am a fanatic for chamber music, especially string quartets, whether Beethoven, Shostakovitch, Haydn, Mozart, you name it.....damn, I cannot wait to hear your system, BUT, only classical (well, except a Lyle Lovett CD called Joshua Judges Ruth and its Track #2) with chamber music and large scale symphonic....since you also have the Playback Designs, I will bring a few of the MTT/SFSO Mahler SACDs for good measure.....

Cheers,

Mike was working on the raw video and I will edit it and do the voice over. I'm sure we will get it done before long. It will be added to the "Worlds Greats Audio Systems"!

Peter has been very patient with me. i did do a 'trial run' a few months back and had a learning curve to doing the video shots.

then i knew i would have some system changes coming up so the video effort has been on my 'back burner'.

i need to get back on it so Peter can get it up and posted. thanks to Peter for being understanding.

Well, Peter, considering the many wonderful videos of yours I have drooled over (some systems sound fantastic and some sound just okay) I now feel that this is a pretty good test for deciding on gear. Case in point....in your video of the Gryphon room in Munich, the sound you captured was fantastic, killer enough that I wanted to add Gryphon to my short list of gear to audition. Sadly, that came crashing down when I learned that Gryphon has no US distribution now so until then, no product for US audiophiles. Another example was a video of the gear of a new Swiss audio company where I found the sound to be a wee bit on the clinical side....perhaps an actual listen might be better?? Maybe.....

Cheers,

Kevin Malmgren, the Evolution Acoustics speaker designer, will be at my home this Monday thru Wednesday, to do the final set-up on the MM7's. I pick him up Monday evening at the airport. it has been hard to get our schedules meshed to get this done, the time is finally here.

it is hard to imagine it sounding better than it does now, but I know that it will. i'm already blissfully happy with what I hear.

I'm excited to hear the MM7's optimized.

Definitely post!!! If you can video record, that would be great!
