I was impressed with a system that included these amps.They have controversial introduction due to some reliability problems. I have not read it but it appears to be measurement based.

For equipment in the six figure range, I would expect it to measure stupendously well, and if it didn't, regardless of how it sounded, they deserve a not so good review.

Was somewhat put aback by the power at 2 ohms from the other review (or is it the same) will not go over 450 watts at 2 ohms although they claim it doubles down. Not that I was ever interested in 6-figures amp or anything Audio in this price range.
 
$127,000 - ouuugh ! I wonder how it will hold a resale value in 3 years time.
 
If it's that good you will not need to sell it.

If you find one used fo $25-30k, have relatively easy to drive speakers, and like a Kondo house sound - then why not. You may give it a try. But for $100k (or whatever the list price is right now) I think you can do much better.
 
And what is the kondo house sound if i may ask , i heard only once the M 1000 pre at the kharma factory /store in breda , it sounded layered /tubey and a bit coloured , but whether that was the kondo sign was hard to say.

This is exactly how Kondo sounds to my ears, maybe even more so, as the M1000 is one of the most transparent Kondo amps. I was using the M1000 mk II for over 6 months.
 
I have no experience with the Kondo Ongaku, but I have listened to some complete Audio Note systems. IMHO they are closed systems - you should not mix components from other brands and either you love the way they play music - they manage to create a fantastic emotional connection using some types of music, or you hate them. They are not accurate, and do not pretend to be. But if I was of these music lovers that listen 95% of the time to opera or orchestral I would probably own an Audio Note system. The way they manipulate the recordings of human voice is really terrific. And as Andromedaaudio also noticed, the layered aspect of voices and orchestra was so natural that you could not believe you were listening to a recording. And now the part that most of the forum members dislike even more than the acceptance of coloration - once the prices start climbing the perceived sound quality also increases accordingly. :)

I have no experience to support my claim, but I have the feeling that conventional room acoustics can not be applied to Onkagu and simlilar products based systems. Audio Note and tube traps should not mix well ... :)

Interesting observations, Microstrip...effectively a system with distortions plays recorded orchestral and opera so well it sounds unbelievably real. On other music, it apparently falls down. So if one could combine the 'best of all various systems' to create the ultimate in realism on all music...what is it that Audio Note is doing 'right' to suit opera/orchestra? And can this be adopted without the deleterious side effects that clearly show themselves in other forms of music?

What i am asking may in fact be impossible...but assuming Audio Note did not create a completely false replication of opera music that happens to sound correct...which seems equally improbable to me...then there must be some element in what they do which is correct?
