tima's DIY RCM

Yes, the DC inverter for the motor is adjustable but a coarse steps. I haven't messed with it though. At 12 volts I get 0.5rpm, a nice round number that helps with bath times.
 
Anyone use the Little Giant pump and 0.20 micron filter? Tried it yesterday, not sure the little giant is strong enough to push through the 0.20 micron filter. Order more 0.35 micron filters, that may be the sweet spot.
 
I have only used the .35 micron filter with the Little Giant pump.

I air dry, and I keep a small hepa fan in the room. They are dry in around 30 mins. I built this to hold the records:

Drying is the only part of my process that I am not thrilled with. I feel like during the air drying process there is a chance that dust and debris can still land and remain on the record.
 
I haven’t had any problems. I also do a final rinse with AIVS Pure Water before it goes in a Disk Keeper sleeve.
i have compared with and without rinse and think it is worth the little bit of effort.
 
I do a full rinse in a 2nd Elmasonic.

The one thing I liked about the KL Audio RCM or even the Audio Desk was the drying cycle. One day I will find a way to build my own which will utilize the Kuzma spindle.

I feel like i could come up with some sort of heated box with a forced draft that could dry the records in 5 minutes. But, my cleaning setup is already taking up 6’+ of space.

Yes, that is the right conclusion wrt the Little Giant.

The Flowmax/Watts FPP-0.2-975-DOE 2.5” x 9.75” DOE End Cap 0.2 micron absolute filter is not a good match for the Little Giant 1-AA-OM pump. The filter will load with debris and the Little Giant is not adequate to maintain an adequate flow rate for that filter.

The 0.35 micron Flow Max FM-0.35-975 2-1/2” x 9-3/4” Pleated Filter mentioned in my 3rd DIY article appears to work okay with the Little Giant.

The advantages of the 0.20 micron FPP-0.2-975-DOE are its smaller pore opening size to capture smaller particles but more importantly that it is absolute rated, whereas the 0.35 micron FM-0.35-975 has a nominal rating. The absolute rating assures that no particle larger than 0.2 microns will pass through a filter with that rating - that it has (at least in principle) 99.9% retention of its rated particle size and larger across its lifespan. The spec sheet you linked for the FPP-0.2-975 shows this in the filter removal efficiency chart.

Whereas a nominal rating does not provide the same assurance such that its -.35 rating operates for a percentage of particles. The rating methodology uses a glass bead of specified size and contaminants are not always spherical. The relative depth of the filter bed is also a factor. The 0.20 micron filter will have a much shorter usable life with the Little Giant.

So.... rather than accept the 0.35 micron filter with the Little Giant, I switched to a pump that is adequate to the absolute rated 0.20 filter. The Shurflo 8020-513-236 meets the need. It requires use of 3/8" hoses. A differential pressure gauge (shown below) was added to the system to monitor the filter.

Attached is a PDF file with the various parts used in this new pump and filter system.

Edit: the Little Giant + 0.35 micron pump+filter can move to the rinse tank setup shown in David's picture above. Alternatively by adding some valves and spitters,the 0.2 micron filter can be used with the rinse tank, but not simultaneously with the cleaning tank. When I can get out from under my current workload I will do a write-up about the rinse tank which David has nicely implemented using one of the new S series tanks from Elmasonic.

Thanks, was worth a shot. I'll make the switch to the 0.20 and new pump in the future.

The tank on the right is for washing/cleaning - the same as I've been using for a while. It is a dual-frequency Elmasonic P120H along with Kuzma RD rotisserie. The lefthand tank is for rinsing; it is a single-frequency Kuzma S120H with Kuzma RD. Yes, the Elma S120H is a bit shorter. My friend David (@dminches) built a near identical system; his was done before mine. I used his concept for building the larger tray to hold both rigs.

This shot shows the pumps and filters. The closer unit uses the Little Giant pump and filter discussed in my third article: tima’s DIY RCM – follow-up #2: Compelling Changes – Improved Results at Bill Hart's The Vinyl Press. The further unit is the pump and filter w/ pressure gauge used for the wash tank - referenced above in my post #236 along with parts list- that was installed a year ago. A little more detail below.

I have been following this thread intently from the beginning as I intend to build this approach.

Well I got mine all setup today. New ultrasonic with a pump under the work table, and you can see the filter. Then rinse & vacuum large amounts of water and finish with an air dry. The rack was made by some guy in Europe, found on Etsy, it's pretty nice. I might clean up some cables and add a switch for the pump - maybe anchor the hose from vacuum somehow.
