Halcro is all but gone, those mentioned are going strong. The market is speaking. Those mentioned all have changed voicing. So I think the adaptiive capabilities of these companies has surely had something to do with their continuing success.
Actually Jack. Halcro is back with their Eclipse monoblocks - very expensive

You lost me on that PS Ceasar...
Are you addressing the new Aida?
Mike,
I must say I disagree with the suggested tone that DartZeel is "more real" or more "true" and tubes are for listening for pleasure. Most people find that systems are pleasant just because they sound to them more real. I have owned Dartzeel for several years in the past and even hosted the new preamp and the NH458 for several weeks. It is an excellent brand, but IMHO there is nothing more real in it than in many other top tube systems.
Again IMHO what creates the feeling of more real is the synergy with the whole system, room and the education of the listener. Stereo is extremely limited in the capability of reproducing real events. But yes, audiophiles love nice rules and stereotypes in an hobby that is mostly an individual experience.
Hi - My post was not about SET or SS or tubes or speakers. It was about what is one's reference for assessing sonics and what one hears when listening to live acoustic music.
Fremer is no more than a data point. maybe one who we know well, and so we put more weight on it, or less weight depending on our viewpoint......or whether his view is friendly to our own.
True, but to many who are less into the hobby than we are, he is a great authority and celebrity.
And there is a huge mass of products out there in the marketplace, resulting in confusion and paralysis... and when people get confused they look to authority figures to help them out of that state of paralysis , per well-documented psychology studies...
In addition, "Great Yoda" Valin also reviewed VAC, gloriously I'm sure, making the authority influence technique that much more powerful

Good points, Caesar. However, I suspect potential purchasers of these VAC amps will listen to them and probably trust their own ears before buying. They are not likely to buy just because Valin or Fremer give a good review. I think reviews of this type of product - high cost, rare, etc - is primarily for content for the magazines, pleasure of the reviewers and readers, and marketing for the designer. Brand awareness in print, discussions, etc, and perhaps trickle down awareness for their other products.
I think the experienced folks will, but others won't. To some a "great enough" sound along with celebrity endorsements will cut their search short, and they will write the check.
Not everyone is obsessed as the few hundred regular guys on this site
In addition, the VAC is great on NOLA, VS, and for Fremer on Wilsons. But it doesn't have the bass to drive Magico like CAT, so someone can definitely make a mistake
I dont see a current pre amplifier in their line up .I have been interested in listening to the Halcro phono

I have never heard their older dm 8 or dm 10 i have heard halcro only with ml 32 and zanden /octave pre
