Did you manage to listen to all 50 to pick the best one?

Hmm, those arms and hands look like they've never cued up an lp. More like adjusted their earbuds and their iNanos.

In the general's room you will see a section dedicated to Morini. You can get some Tang. She is famous for that devil's trill (as is Oistrakh) and Tchaikovsky among other things.
My latest holy grail quest....The testament reissue sounds great...that's why I want the ED1 even more. I once missed an opportunity to snag a copy around $950.00 a couple years ago.

I’ll give it a try. I’m just glad the ridiculous label that reissues SAX isn’t the one. I think they’re a scourge on the industry.

Morini is like torture because despite her gifts, barely any recordings exist, especially good ones. She has like 2 albums over a page on Discogs...

I have never heard anything that impressed me really with a Lampi. Maybe PCM could be ok, but all the DSD at shows sounds like fuzz. I think about digital, but vinyl keeps me up later digging and ordering.

Christian - must you have the stereo version? The mono is much more available for cheap.

Good question....Sometimes the mono versions sound great, sometime not when compared to the stereo version. The mono version of a great stereo LP is not necessarily good sounding and may not even be in the ball park with the stereo. It all depends on the title I suppose.

Bruch Scottish Fantasy is among the most beautiful classical pieces I have listened to so far. Bonzo recommended me the Oistraskh version long time ago but I kind of ignored it because I saw it was one on a hit list. The hits need no search and I could come back to it easily. Anyway the Oistrakh version is not my number one version for performance. I asked G to get me one because it supposed to be one of the best sounding pressing on Scottish. I heard G likes the performance by Rabin more. For me I like the version by Grumiaux/Wallberg most. My classical knowledge is the size of turtle tail. I also dont know crap about technique. I only use my feeling and emotion to determine which one I like. To me Scottish Fantasy violin requires a good conducting orchestra to be most beautiful. The orchestra conducted by Wallberg totally make Grumiaux flows together so coherently in one piece with orchestra. His violin is uncommonly not the starlight or the sole focus of the show although it is a violin piece. To me Oistrakh version has him pass and receive with the orchestra really well meaning something like him and the orchestra alternately pass the musical passage like a volleyball setting the ball and smash it with another person in team. Oisktrakh is still more the focus of the performance. Whereas Grumiaux version does no alternate passing but moves along with the orchestra. He is less spotlighted than Oistrakh. Wallberg's orchestra is just romantically majestic. If you have seen the Legends of the Fall with Hopkins and Pitt, you can imagine this music in that movie with beautiful mountain scene easily. My pressing of Grumiaux is $40 Philips Netherland 1974. The sound could have a better clarity, rawness and bites to give better presentation of the the venue and tangibility. If the sound of both violin and harp are more distinct with clearer higher pitch and bite the listening sensation will be even more satisfying too. I think it is the way they were recorded or pressed. Often you can not get both performance you like and sound to come together in one.

HI Tang you should clarify you are using the Oistrakh youtube to make that assessment and confirm if that's the case after you get the LP. I haven't heard the Grumiaux version except on youtube

I like it. Just ordered one. Maybe sonics aren’t the best, but they sound good enough to enjoy it.

You should try the speakers corner Oistrakh at 30 and let us know what you think
