Aesthetix Io Users Group

Had an opportunity to meet Jim at an event in Stockholm earlier this week and also had dinner with him. He is an absolute wonderful person! Very interesting to hear about his history and design philosophy. We did listen to both Rhea and Io: same natural sonic cloth whith the Io having higher resolution and more space. It made me humble about tube rolling when I understood how they test tubes at the factory. I ordered an Io Eclipse in black with single ps and one input. My Ypsilion VPS-100 will see service in my second system.
The first time I heard the Io Signature in my system, it was a transformative moment in what I heard. The Io presented to me nothing but musical bliss and excellent reproduction of delicate that just mesmerized me. In my experience over the nearly 18 years of ownership is that the V1/V2 seem to be prone to tube issues…tube whistle mostly for me. I know A few Io owners that live with the factory tubes because of the steps that Aesthetix takes to match and get the sound right in the Io before it ships. Truly, it is a hands on approach to delivering a great product. I am sill waiting for the house to be ready for move in, so it will be a few months before I get things setup again. Enjoy listening.

I have been very lucky I suppose. I Have owned the Io for many years. Sputtering tubes from time to time . Maybe 3 tubes in over 10 years.

I hand select tubes for noise on my own. The only issue I have had has been self afflicted. I believe the Io is still of reference caliber.

I did some measurements while repaired the IO. The plate voltage on EL34 Is next to 750 Volt DC. The KT66 Absolute maximum plate voltage is 550v. So Kt66 can easily destroy the power supply if it goes to short circuit. It depends only on the tubes isolation resistance. Some kt66 can handle some not....

Hi pet525TT, FWIW, while I understand some members have success in using KT66 in the power supply, per my communication with Jim White, KT77 should be used instead.

I also remember getting the Io back from a complex repair, taking a long time, and thinking "wow this is really different". And this feeling stays with me, switching from streaming to analog. The new tube set I got from Aesthetix was really good, and very low noise. Later, I got a quad of NOS Telefunken for the first (and most critical) gain stage, that I am using now, and realize I was very lucky. The seller sent a second Tele quad, but it was more noisy, and I had to return it. I don't think NOS tubes are required, it is more like icing on the cake (or what you call it). The new tubes selected by Aesthetix are also very good, and maybe more neutral.

Ho fatto alcune misurazioni mentre riparavo l'IO. Alcuni kt66 possono gestire altri no....

Hello Massimo66
Do you have an IO need to repair?

I just finished a stint of taking the Io out of my system and using an Ayre P5xe solid state phono. I found I was listening when the moment was available as the Ayre is always on. No warm up, just sit and listen. One side of an LP was sometimes all I can get between work and family with a young child.

I just put the Io back into the system just to see if I needed that wonderful Io sound or if I could live with the Ayre. The Io is so fantastic. I have an older, perhaps original Io that was upgraded to the Signature. It sounds magical, so right, so alive.

I will put the Ayre back storage and save it for the summer heat wave that is bound to come.

I used google translate, and it seems @Massimo66 complains that Aesthetix wont send out their schemas, for repair. This is bad news for customers abroad. The cost of shipping 2-3 boxes across the Atlantic, for customers in Europe, is prohibitive (I have done it once). Is there no "trusted" repair facility in Europe?

Good morning everyone in Italy I certainly haven't found anyone who seriously deals with repairing Aesthetix devices no on the audio market I found this announcement: https://www.audio-markt.de/en/market/aesthetix-roehrensaetze-REPAIREN- MODIFICATION-0656254107

When I start to repair the IO I was wrote to Aesthetix for a schematics but never had answer or any info. And The IO is not an easy wiring.

I perfectly understand your apprehension about keeping a stove lit in the summer, think that for a few years besides the IO Signature I had a nice class A preamp and the PLInius 300 SA reference as final amplifier with whose warmth my friends and I, while listening music and we organized Shootings of various cables, we boiled water to cook spaghetti and accompanied good music with excellent food and a nice glass of Brunello di Montalcino. in these listening sessions At my house in Palermo the air conditioners with their gentle breath became the indispensable accessory for the expert audiophile. in those torrid days a handful of heroes faced Mahler's titan with their own ears certain that they could aspire to the Resurrection with the second symphony by the same author

Thank you for your interest Today I call my technician and have him explain in detail what happened Personally I wouldn't be able to do a clean weld anyway from memory I remember that one of the large capacitors that are to the right of the transformers has burst and then all series of diodes are separate it is one of the two EL 34 IT LIGHTED UP TO BURNING RE IN A FEW SECONDS. Grazie grazie grazie

@Massimo66 - so you can get it repaired, in Italy?

According to the Aesthetix worldwide dealer list, there is an Italian dealer. However, this does not necessarily mean the dealer can repair the unit. They may still need to send it off to an authorized overseas repair center, unless they are in fact an authorized service center with the capability to do repairs on Aesthetix equipment with approval from Aesthetix. If a product is out of warranty, which many of us are in that position, then almost any electronic shop can make a repair, but i would look for ones that are associated with Aesthetix if at all possible or send back to the factory for repair. The last suggestion is problematic for many customers outside the United States, so finding a valid and authorized service center is where I would look. I once had my Krell SACD serviced by the German distributor for Krell even though I bought the unit in the United States. It was under warranty though.
Here is the link to the worldwide dealer list: http://www.aesthetix.net/distributors.php?aac_mobile=no

I am not entirely sure, but sometimes companies may ask you to demonstrate actual ownership and that you are a valid owner and ask for you to supply the serial number in order to be able to request a schematic. I have learned this through experience with other equipment I have owned over the years. I also established a relationship with dealers and the company so they knew I had the equipment and when issue presented itself, I could cut through the red tape. Get to know the dealer and the company that builds your stuff. Good luck.
